After a year of planning, months of hard work, and too many take-out meals, it’s finally time to share our newly remodeled kitchen! This space came together just how I had envisioned even with a few hiccups along the way, and I’m so happy to say that it functions wonderfully for our family. Enough chatting, let’s get to showing. But first, a look at what it was before…

From worn and tired, lacking storage, and missing function to now…

Gorgeous
Thanks, Toni!
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you!
Such beautiful work, Gwen. I’m curious about the full fridge/freezer – Are they actually two separate units, but share a venting system to look like a larger, single unit?
Yes, basically. I’ll share more on them in a separate post next week. I LOVE it!
Wow!
I love it!!!!!! Your vision was spot on WOWZA!! Nice job
Thank you, Leah! Happy weekend!
It’s really so fabulous, Gwen. So many details I love and it’s obvious how much thought and planning went into the new design. Beautifully done and I’m sure you will love this kitchen for a long, long time 🙂
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words and I know you understand the work that went in, but you’re right, it’s all worth it and I hope we can enjoy it for a long time!
I’d really love the scoop on your counter top and your flooring. A reference to marble is made somewhere but see the phrase that you chose Silestone in Lagoon. Is that accurate? Are your floors marble or the marble look in porcelain?
I spent nearly 2 hours in Lowe’s today trying to see how I can translate your kitchen products into an immediate master bathroom do-over. A broken pipe started it all and now I need your help. The Lowe’s guy was no help since he’d never heard of your blog or Lowe’s partnership with you.
I will be so grateful for your response.
Hi Beverly M, If you hover over each picture, you’ll see tags/numbers. Click a number/tag & Gwen takes you directly to the source. Re: The floor tile–

Thank you for this, Susan!
Not Gwen here but if you hover over the pictures, you’ll see details for most things. For example, the floor is stated as a mix of granite (black) and marble (white). If you click on the number, it will bring you to the source of the product. Hope that helps!
Thanks for helping, Maggie!
Oh no! The flooring is in stock at Lowe’s. It’s absolute granite (the black) and blanco marble (the white). If you hover over the images all of the sources should pop up as little numbers. You can click those and it will take you directly to the product on lowes.com. A bathroom with these elements would be beautiful!
Wow, your kitchen is amazing, Mr. Makerista is simply one hard worker. And all those friends, what a compliment. Great taste you have and yet elegant to compliment all the kitchen accent.
Thank you, yes, Micah has worked very hard and I got pretty lucky! 😉
Guess you’ll have to start making dinner now ;D
Gorgeous work.
Right?! 🙁 Ha. I’m trying. I still don’t love it, but it’s a lot easier to get through it in here. 🙂
Gorgeous! I’d love to see a different angle of the tiled window wall.
I’ll definitely try to get that for you in the coming weeks as I post more details!
Beyond Amazing! Love the unique cabinet colour. Mirrored Splashback and Classic black/white floor. I also like your choice of using ‘silver’ over ‘gold’ hardware, can imagine it would look good with gold too. Well done so worth all your hard work. Thanks for sharing.
I initially thought gold but I love the classic look and price tag of the silver knobs. I knew I’d never tire of them. Thanks for your kind words!
I love the kitchen, and have been waiting patiently for this update for what feels like forever 🙂 I’d love to know what the mirrored splashback is like to live with, I love the idea but I’m hesitant to go ahead with it. Thanks
I will definitely be posting about the backsplash soon. I really love it! And it’s felt like forever to me too. 🙂
The kitchen looks Beautiful! I especially love the silver hardware and the faucet. The black accents are great! You did a fabulous job.

It’s so so stunning Gwen!
It’s so enviably gorgeous! Well done to you and your husband.
It looks so amazing! I love how you seamlessly put it all together! I’d love to hear more about the mirrored backsplash! It’s one of my very favorite details. Bravo! Enjoy your new space!
Thank you, Kristie, I’ll definitely be touching on that soon!
This is absolutely beautiful! With so many images elsewhere of all white kitchens, this is such a great example of how to bring color and character to a kitchen while still keeping it looking fresh. Gorgeous!
Thank you! I love an all white kitchen, but this space definitely called for something a bit more bold. 🙂
I’ve been anxiously awaiting the final pictures! Looks amazing!
Random question – where did you get the shoes you’re wearing in the picture with the blue duress? I’ve been trying to find those exact shoes!
Thanks, Erin! They are Steve Madden from a season or two ago but I think they might still make them.
Gwen, this is amazing! Stylish and distinctive. You have a great point of view.
That means a lot, thanks and hope you’re doing well, Molly!
My words can’t even describe how lovely I think your kitchen is! You guys hit it out of the park!!!!
This is absolute perfection! I love every single detail!
So beautiful. I love the colours and all the details. Fantastic!
Thank you!
Stunning. Gorgeous. Functional. Glamorous. just a few words that come to mind. Congratulations on a job well done! I know how tedious a remodel is… YOU MADE IT! xox, Emily
The kitchen is so incredibly beautiful, but your design choices like the mirrored backsplash, and THOSE FREAKIN FLOORS take it WAY up. Great job Gwen!
Thanks, friend! I feel like it’s the first space I really fought to get all the details right…restraint vs. boldness and that means a lot to hear that!
First off you are just beautiful…. secondly the kitchen turned out amazing! Love every little detail but would love to get more info on the back splash. I need that in my life!
This is just a STUNNER of a kitchen! You must be so pleased! I’ve been married for almost a year now, but still trying to find my own style, and how I want my house to look. I get so much inspiration from your blog! Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks great to hear, Bethany! That was me not that long ago. 🙂 With time and play you’ll figure it out! Thanks for reading!
Absolutely exquisite Gwwen! Your taste level is impeccable, and yet, it is so warm and inviting, not intimidating. I also enjoyed the interview on the other site. I struggle with cohesiveness, as I am also drawn to so many styles. You have really remained so disciplined in this house and it has paid off. I am impressed with how well the colors in the different rooms work together without being too much the same, i.e., boring beige. On a side note…you look so beautiful in the pictures as well! You are such an inspiration to all who follow your blog and Instagram page!
By the way, I love the mirrored backsplash. Not something I have ever thought about doing, but of course, I add that to my ever growing list of wants!! 🙂
Wow! This space is giving me life!
I’ve been dying to see the reveal since you got close to finishing it.
Hats off to you!
Thanks, Ariel! It definitely gives a lot more life to the house!
Hi Gwen, great job! What have you used as you back splash – is the mirror glass and what colour? I have glass doors on my upper cabinets and thing this would be a good thing to use inside these cabinets.
Gorgeous! One question, is that a trash compactor below left of sink? If so it sure looks prettier then mine!?hehe
Ha, it is! The house came with an older one and I really liked it so we got a new one. 🙂
This turned out absolutely gorgeous! So classic, yet somehow modern and very unique. Beautiful! Where are your bar stools from? I am looking for something similar… Thanks!
Functional. Glamorous , modern and unique renovation design.
Thank you very much, those are all words I hoped to accomplish!
Gorgeous !! We just moved back into our house after 8 months of renovation (we made our cape cod a colonial) and we are over the moon excited. We had a galley kitchen before and I pretty much cursed every night when cooking because of lake of space, no function, etc. Now, we are always in the kitchen! We opened up two walls and put in an island. It is so fantastic. So happy for you. I wish you many happy years there and many delicious meals and conversation!
Maryann, that sounds amazing! I’m sure those were a long 8 months but its always so worth it in the end. Same to you!
I love it! You knocked it out of the park Gwen!! Well done. xo
Thank you! It’s just so nice to be done and have a good space to work in, I know you understand that. 😉
WOW Gwen! AMAZING!!! Every detail is perfect!!
Thank you, friend!
It turned out beautifully! I know you must be thrilled to be finished with this…. I really like the cabinet color 🙂
Thank you, friend! I can’t wait to see how yours turns out. 🙂 That range hood!!!
I love the subway tile in the back. We bought a house that is about 7 years old. At the time of the build, browns were very much in. The reason we bought was because of the location as there is no one behind us and we really wanted privacy…especially in a bubble like Overland Park.
My husband has let me purchase furniture and a new fridge, but I think I’m going to have to wait at least a year before new backsplash. I would also love to refinish my wood floors because the cabinets and the floors are the same color. I love the contrast yours has with the black/white and muted green cabinets. I also love the faucet. Maybe I could start there? Yours is absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you! Backsplash is a fairly inexpensive thing and can add so much to your home! I totally understand the brown thing. But, you’re smart to choose location over finishes…they can always be changed and location cannot. 🙂
kitchen goals for sure!! This gives me so many ideas, love that this is basically store bought & it looks so custom & lux, you guys did a really great job, it fits so well with the rest of your house. I love how each room is almost monochromatic…Are you going to share the powder room? Curious as to how it looks lol
Thanks so much, Al! The powder room is a space we tiled but just put back in the same fixtures for now. I’m hopeful down the road we can change some things out in there, or at least make it feel a bit more finished, but for now it’s much better and functional. 🙂
Absolutely stunning Gwen! Obsessed with the mirrored backsplash, genius! You must be thrilled!
Thank you, yes, it’s one of my favorite parts!
This is just so beautiful! Such a nice departure from the all white kitchens we have come to see, but not sacrificing the classic and elegant look. Well done!!
Thank you, Tina! That’s definitely what I was going for…I love a white kitchen but this home called for something different. 😉
I agree with Chris Loves Julia – kitchen of the year!!! LOVE IT!
That’s so sweet, thank you, Lori!
GWEN! Gwen, Gwen! This is so unexpectedly modern, yet classic… What a nice job. And, of course, I’m in love with the mere fact that this a Lowe’s kitchen! So well executed. You’re fabulous!
Thanks so much, Monika! Yes, I was so happy to get a look that is much more expensive right down the street at Lowe’s. 🙂
Clicked through from your article on Brit.co and am blown away by your gorgeous, new kitchen (not to mention those FLOORS!) I think what would make it a bit more helpful is to know what all of this would have cost for the average person, assuming they do not have a partnership with Lowes/Frigidare, etc. Is there any way you can estimate that cost breakdown so readers might know whether it’s attainable for them?
Again, congrats on the gorgeous renovation and thanks for sharing!
Hi Virginia, thanks so much for your kind words! I understand what you’re saying. Honestly, we saved the most money doing the work ourselves and using in-stock tile. All of the items are linked to and their prices are listed except the cabinets. Obviously the price will vary depending on the size of your space and your specific needs. This space would probably cost around 40,000. Hope that helps!
40,000 ? 40 thousand USD ?
The kitchen is gorgeous, but 40,000 for a kitchen is not at all low budget
Hi Shirley, I don’t believe I ever used the term “low budget.” For the high-end look and function we achieved, we spent considerably less than most. I believe I used the word budget, but no matter the number allotted for a project, a budget is always a good idea.
Looks so amazing! I decided earlier this year that my dream cabinets are a dark olive. LOVE yours.
I had been dreaming of this color myself for quite a while, and when I still felt strongly about it once we started planning, I knew I wouldn’t tire of it! Thank you so much, Dana!
Gwen, I just love seeing you transform your home, you have a stunningly unique style and vision that is such a delight to watch unfold. Congrats on another spectacular transformation.
Oh, this is really kind and means so much! Thanks for making my day with this, Janell, and for following along. Hope you all are having a great summer!
Lovely! Where are the bar stools from?
Target! Around $40 a piece!
This is amazing!! I love the kitchen.
Thank you!
I absolutely LOVE what you did with your kitchen! you are amazing.
Thank you very much!
