Happy Friday and welcome to those of you enjoying White Buffalo Styling Co’s Summer Blogger Stylin Home Tour! Lindsay’s tours are always filled with loads of inspiration and beautifully styled spaces, so be sure to check out all of the participants at the end of this post. Those of you coming from The House of Silver Lining, thanks for stopping by, and I hope you’ll stay awhile.
Seasonal decor is always about the subtle nod for me. I love infusing things that speak to the time of year without being too literal. Our wood room is one of my favorite spaces to do just that. Every summer I bring out a small collection of shells and rocks we’ve collected traveling. I never pass it without thinking about our first anniversary in San Diego or my time spent in Thailand. Something that conjures up nostalgia and was free is never a bad thing.
Speaking of free, if you’re not pulling over on the side of the road and cutting down weeds this time of year, you should be contrary to what my husband thinks. Every few weeks there is something new blooming and I can’t get enough. When in doubt stick with one weed and go big. Those branches with little lavender flowers are about three feet in height, and they make such an incredible statement in the dining room for not a penny. Quick tip: submerge stems in water for about 10 seconds – I use a five gallon bucket – to remove any unwanted critters before bringing them inside.
It’s the second season we’re lucky enough to have a pool and I have to say, it totally changes how we do summer. Once warmer weather rolls around our focus shifts outside – no indoor renovations, little decorating, a rather filthy house. We may not be indoors much but this little storage area we created when we renovated the kitchen hoping to share that reveal very soon! is getting a lot of use.
There are a lot of major things we want to do outside, but we’ve mainly focused on adding to what is already there at this point. Last year we rehabbed some hand-me-down patio furniture, and this year I’ve been adding lots of plants to green up the wood and concrete jungle.
If I’m not out watering all of the potted plants I’m out lifeguarding…
Both kids have really taken to the water, but this girl especially loves to lounge on the watermelon float and jump into the cool, blue water. And who can blame her? It’s supposed to be 95 degrees today, you know where to find me! How are you embracing summer in your home?
