It’s the final post for the Craig’s Refresh! See the reveal here and living room here. Before we get started, I really appreciate all of your comments on my post about playing it safe. I strive to make this a place where I not only share beauty, but all aspects of the design process and it’s great to get so much feedback. I’m glad I’m not alone!
The Craigs home features an open living and dining concept, but they were using the dining space as a reading area. They love to read and choose it over television most of the time, so chairs around a coffee table make sense.
We moved the oval table over to the sectional and I brought in this beautiful round coffee table that also functions as a kid’s table for their son, Layton. It’s very sturdy and practically indestructible but has round corners for cutely, clumsy toddlers.
Like I mentioned, when discussing the living room details, Zac and Chelsea had some seating that functioned well, but we wanted to update it.
We recovered one chair in a black curtain from Lowe’s and the other with a soft pink fabric I found in the clearance bin at Joanne.
I loved the bones of the green cabinet. Just a little paint and modern hardware gave it the glam feel that Chelsea loves. Layton doesn’t watch TV yet, but in anticipation of those morning cartoons we tucked it in the corner where he can play and sing along with Daniel Tiger.
Chelsea had several paintings by her grandma, and I definitely wanted to incorporate them in the space. I loved the one she had next to the stairs, but the colors in this pink floral were a better fit against the bold blue.
Chelsea loves displaying art and family photos in their home, and I wanted to give her a spot that would allow her to spontaneously update them.
Micah built and the Lowe’s Heroes painted these simple picture ledges, and we styled them up with a few pieces they already had and some new frames ready for photos. This will give Chelsea the freedom to play and expand.
Chelsea thrifted the chandelier a while ago and it was the perfect addition to the nook.
I wanted to give them a place to store and display their books and something built-in is always preferred. I love the look of a low bookshelf, so we put together this pre-made shelf, flipped it on it’s side and then Micah created a base to attach it to and trim out.
The cowhide adds an organic feel and is quiet against the floor but still interesting. We framed the window in simple curtains with black rods and flanked it with prints of local fountains here in Kansas City. The space has so much personality now, you can’t help but be happy in it. I loved being a part of this makeover, and thanks to Lowe’s for making it possible!

It's so amazing what a difference this refresh made, your work is always inspiring! Sure hope Mr. Craig is feeling okay these days, I'm sure the refresh helped! Was the artwork and pictures theirs or did you bring those? Love all the black and whites and I love that flower print by the staircase.

You guys did an amazing job in this space. Every detail was thought of and done to perfection. That brilliant blue paint color was the crowning glory. I just love how you blessed this family, who has had to overcome a few obstacles. God bless you and Micah for being a light to this family.
