I’m so excited to be revealing the Craig’s new living space with you today! I shared our inspiration for the room with you here, and it’s been really rewarding to see the space come together with the help of Lowes. And Mr. Makerista.
In my last post I talked a bit about Chelsea and Zac’s personal style, but I didn’t tell you why I picked them, or show you what their space looked like before. I wanted this makeover to be about much more than a room, and when I read their story and saw the potential in the space and their openness to be bold I knew they were the right family to take on.
Chelsea and Zac have lived in their house for about two years now. Those two years have been filled with a lot of joy and a lot of suffering. This is the house they brought their son, Layton, home to. But this is also the house they have fought cancer in. After having rotator cuff surgery in January, Zac’s shoulder wasn’t healing right.
In May, at the age of 31, Zac was diagnosed with stage II chondrosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. This type of cancer doesn’t respond to chemo or radiation, so the only option was surgery. His doctor removed the tumor and froze the shoulder bone with liquid nitrogen in hopes of promoting new, healthy growth.
While being together is what’s most important, being in a space you love, that reflects who you are, is pretty darn great. Zac is in remission and it was time for the Craigs to focus their attention on living life instead of fighting for it. I knew this transformation could be a fresh start for them, and I think we accomplished just that.
The Lowe’s Heroes were incredible, and there is no way Micah and I could have done it without them. We spent one day painting and installing and the second day furnishing and styling.
The Craigs waited patiently for the reveal, but the wait was worth it…
