Shared Boys Room Inspiration and a Present Day Throw Back Thursday

A few months ago I had a reader contact me about helping her with some of her kids’ rooms.  After chatting with Deb I could see that she had some really amazing children and that they would all be fun to work with.  I took some time to learn more about her boys – their love for the Wisconsin Badgers and Legos – and helped put together some inspiration for their shared room.

Figuring out what makes people tick and then searching for items to surround them with is a pretty incredible opportunity.  The boys really love defensive end J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans and incorporating something with him was important.  I created a graphic of his foundation‘s motto: “dream big, work hard” and Deb had it printed on fabric from Spoonflower to cover a bulletin board.  I think the room will feel personal but will grow well with the boys.
I also helped Deb with her daughter, Norah’s, room.  Norah is a spunky, Harry Potter lover who’s favorite colors are red and yellow.  Some of her requests pushed me to think outside my own box, which was really rewarding and I think the outcome is beautiful and fun at the same time!  I hope to show you a glimpse of that soon.

Tuesday I drove to St. Louis with one of my oldest friends to visit our other friend and see Justin Timberlake.  We’re all young moms who don’t get a break that often, so this was something we were really looking forward to.  (If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve already seen bits of this monumental evening.)
I personally had see Justin 5 times before (go ahead and giggle, or be rather envious).  The first concert I ever attended was *NSYNC in middle school.  The venue was small, as they were just gaining some notoriety, and the young girl who was their opening act wasn’t very well known at the time.  I remember watching Britney perform “…Baby One More Time” and just wanting her to hurry up and be done so the boys could come on.  My how far they have come, and how much I’ve grown…or so I thought. 
We had nosebleed seats (like top of the top) on Tuesday night but were looking forward to enjoying the music and some drinks.  We waited out by the concessions until the very last minute to chat and people watch when this guy tapped me on the shoulder…
“How are your seats tonight?  Would you all like to sit in the VIP section?”  
Umm…was that really a question?!  Are you an angel?  I don’t consider people like Caleb popping out of nowhere luck.  We were destined for better after all the time and dedication we had given Justin over the years.  We scampered our way down to the floor level and enjoyed the most amazing view.  I didn’t think it could get any better until part of the stage moved to our section and we got what felt like a private show.  

Please excuse me while I revert back to a screaming 13 year old. 


We’re talking bucket list moment here.  His slightly sweaty hand grabbed mine, and I held on way longer then necessary.

That 13 year old girl told me not to wash my hand for at least a week.  But the 29 year old mother told me that I should probably give it a good cleaning.

Well that was all kinds of dramatic, but what teenage girl isn’t?  I’d love to know who you swooned over growing up?

    What a wonderful experience! Also, the inspiration board is very well done. I love how you piece together so many unique finds to create a beautiful space. You've inspired me to spruce up some of the under-decorated rooms in our new home!

    my first concert ever was *NSYNC in middle school too! later in life, my mom had to remind me that Britney opened for them. i had no memory of that other than wanting her off the stage so the "real" concert could start!

    How fun! I had so many friends that got to go, too! Sounds like it was a blast! A couple of months ago, my sister and I went to see Bruno Mars and I thought it was going to be all teeny boppers, but as it turns out…it was all women/moms my age! lol! And it was a great show!

      Maybe he'll add it! He wasn't coming to Kansas City, that's why we went to St. Louis, but then he added KC in July! It's definitely more enjoyable to see him solo…I remember when I saw 'NSYNC I was always waiting for it to be his solos. 🙂
