I think life is often like this, but I find it to be especially true in design: one thing leads to another. My parent’s neighborhood had their annual garage sales about a month ago, and I found a few gems as I made the rounds with my mom and sister.
I also picked up these solid brass sconces for $5. Again, I was not sure what to do with them, but I really loved the classic details. When I got home, I placed the sconces on either side of the mirror and really liked how the flower details tied the two pieces together. I started thinking about where they might fit; they would certainly need a piece underneath them – something modern and clean to juxtapose the details.
I’ve sanded and painted the first coat so far. I’m trying to be patient and do things the right way to give this piece the clothing it deserves. No quick spray painting this go around. Here’s to hoping a few more coats of paint and some new jewelry will bring her back to life. If all goes according to plan she’s sure to be a new favorite. (You can see her all finished here).
This last weekend we celebrated my husband’s birthday and he received quite the gift: a new nephew! I was lucky to get to snap some pictures of Hanley today too.
It really is amazing how quickly they change, sometimes within hours!
Am I alone in this domino effect, or do you find one thing leading to another when it comes to design too?

love those kinds of changes! i'll start rearranging a small corner of my house and the next thing I know I'm changing art, moving furniture everywhere…so much fun! can't wait to see how this little corner turns out.

Always happens to me, the domino effect kinda drives me nuts. Love that mirror and can't wait to see what you'll do with the dresser.

Oh no…I am all too familiar with the domino effect. I start with something small and it always snowballs into something much much larger. It's officially my tagline with my family. 😉 But, this just means we don't do things halfway, so it's a good thing, right? Have a great weekend Gwen!

Loving the mid century piece (and loving that you're giving him a new paint job)! I love the domino effect, I love making sure my spaces are constantly evolving. That child is absolutely flawless. SO precious.

I love your finds and cannot wait to see the new outfit for the dresser, I'm sure it will be fab! You're right, it is a domino effect. Once I change one thing, I want to do another and so on. I just finished reupholstering my Louis dining chairs and now I want to change my table top! Decisions, decisions!
That baby is gorgeous, congrats on the new nephew! 🙂

Oh it's always a domino effect 🙂 Love that mirror!

Domino all the way. New chair = new pillow = new throw = new side table = new lamp = new pictures on the wall next to the chair, and it goes on and on and on.

I'm right there with you on the domino effect. I was actually just thinking about that the other day. Looking forward to seeing your dresser makeover!

one item leads to the creation/reinvention of another! I'm looking forward to see what you end up doing with your garage sale finds. Gotta love a good garage sale!
