Last spring Milly and I had the amazing opportunity to be a part of a jewelry campaign to combat sex trafficking called Fight For THEM.
Fight for THEM was founded by Mindy Greaves, a mother of 5 (she just recently had twin boys!), who saw the
devastation of human sex trafficking first hand while being stationed
with her husband in Guam. A heaviness was planted on her heart for
these children and the quote “evil prevails when good men do nothing”
was placed in her mind. She knew there had to be something that even
she, a young stay-at-home mom, could do. She began taking old
jewelry and refurbishing it to sell to others. The organization has now
turned into a collection of beautiful jewelry assembled by family,
friends, and volunteers.

Every piece includes the Fight For THEM logo, a pendant with the initials of a girl already rescued out of human trafficking, and a “pearl of hope.” 100% of the profits support onsite organizations combating sex trafficking in Southeast Asia.
January is human trafficking awareness month. I invite you to join the fight. You can learn more and purchase the jewelry here. It would be a really special gift for a mother or daughter (it comes in children’s sizes too), or a beautiful Valentine’s day present.

This is so nice. I just learned that it's still rampant and apparently the US is one of the biggest offenders with SF being the 'darkest' city and I find that so baffling. No matter where its happening we seem to never talk about it. So thank you!

I know. It's really hard to believe it's so prevalent here. The super bowl is actually the biggest day for sex trafficking all year. Crazy and really sad. Thanks for commenting Caroline!

This is such a great cause. I recently heard that Cindy McCain along with several Democratic and Republican senators are working together to combat the sex trafficking trade especially during the Super Bowl which happens to be one of the largest trafficking stages in the world. I know that you are from here in the Kansas City area too and I've heard that the 435 & Metcalf (Overland Parkway) corridor is also a huge trafficking point. We definitely need more people taking notice. I think as Americans we tend to think this is a problem for other countries, but there are terrible things happening right in our own backyards. Thanks for bringing attention to it!

I had heard that about the Super Bowl. It is amazing how prevalent it is in our own country, in our own city. In other countries people enter small villages and tell the parents that they can give their daughter's great jobs that will give their whole family money and are trapped into giving their daughters over. Whole villages loose all of their girls not knowing any better. The profits of Fight For THEM not only go towards rescuing girls, but also educating people about the people doing this. But here it's much more under the radar. Thanks for sharing and reading, Jenny!

Thank you so much for sharing this Gwen. This is such a very real part of life in so many places and its so so sad to know that so many children have their innocence and childhoods taken away from them.

Thanks for reading, lady!

Love that you shared this. I get nauseous even thinking about it. Maybe especially having two young daughters, the idea of any woman, but especially a scared little girl being put through this makes me want to scream with rage. They're all someone's daughter.
themakerista@gmail.com says
Exactly. The thought of that happening to my own children is just terrifying.
