The 4th is always a fun holiday for us. Not only do we get to celebrate the birth of our country, it’s also my mother-in-law’s birthday.
Vicki loves all things patriotic, so this year I painted her these chairs.
The concept seemed easy enough, but like most projects I tackle, the time was pretty intense. I purchased these chairs, which come raw, making priming a must. The chairs come in pieces so I laid them out and started with a spray primer, but the wood was soaking it up so quickly it would have taken about 10 cans. I switched to 2 coats of brushed on primer and then followed that up with 2 spray coats of the colors. Then I distressed it all a bit with a sanding block and stenciled on the stars. I still need to antique them to match my mother-in-law’s decor a bit better and seal them, but I was really happy with how they turned out.

What a gorgeous weekend…just love those chairs and the happy faces! Off to check out your bathroom1!!!!!!!
Lovely photos of your holiday! And I am in love with your bathroom! You do such beautiful work. 🙂
Thanks so much, Joanna. Your kind words mean a lot!
Looks like an amazing time
Gwennnnnnnnn!!! Do you KNOW how LONG I have been DYING to see your bathroom?! 🙂 It was SO worth the wait!!! I love it! That floor is absolutely fabulous! And you're right…classic, but packed with personality. Just lovely! And seriously…that sweet cabin is your temporary digs?! LOVING it. Can't wait to see more of it AND hear about your house hunting!
Ha. Do you know how long I've been DYING to show you?! 😉 Thanks, it was a lot of work but a lot of fun too, and I was so happy with the results. I can't wait to share the house hunt news with you too – hopefully next week. Hope you're doing well, Autumn!
What a great present you gave your mother-in-law! The chairs are beautiful. And what a perfect celebration! I can't wait to see your bathroom reveal!
Love love love the floors in the bathroom plus pretty much everything else in it (that's exactly what my pin says). Great job! I would ask you to post a tutorial on the floor but there's no way I could re-create that! Amazing!
Thanks, Sandra! Yes, I might try to kind of explain it at some point, but I don't think I could do a full tutorial….it's kind of complicated!
What a fun holiday and what a beautiful place to stay until you found your new home, although I would think it would be hard to leave!!! Off to check out your bathroom!!
