While our house is rather colorful now, a few years ago it didn’t have much color to speak of (some orange in Xander’s nursery and red in our master bathroom, but that was it). Everything else was very neutral. I was afraid of color. What if I got tired of it? How do I add it in? But I was always so drawn to it, and loved the energy it gave, so I’ve slowly been adding more and more color over the last year.
I think most people turn to other homes for inspiration when choosing color palettes for their own (through Pinterest, magazines, etc), but I want to suggest that we should be looking everywhere. My current color palette obsession is one I pulled from my 1-year-old’s wardrobe.
You won’t open a drawer or closet door of Milly’s without finding shades of reds and purples. They’re everywhere, and this entire winter I’ve been dressing her like the youngest member of the Red Hat Society (minus the huge hat).

You're so right about the Orangerie pillow – you could pick just about any color as an accent and run with it! It really anchors everything though and makes the other colors look perfectly intentional. Love the pops of color. I am definitely feeling the color right now too!

My home used to be all neutral too. Times have so changed!

Love pops of color! I think the more you understand color the less your fear it. I've been craving corals and greens lately. I think I'm in need of warmer weather.

Such a good point! You're right, the more I surround myself with it, the less it scares me. 🙂 I think we're all in need of warmer weather!

I haven't quite found my accent color yet! I love green but that's pretty safe….I need to branch out to something bright.

It's fun to have pops in things you don't have to commit too, that's for sure!

im getting used to colors too. I mean ive always loved them, but didnt know how to incorporate them. Im learning.

Me too, Angie!
Jennifer BNHblog says
I'm still learning to incorporate color. I love them, of course, but I love so many of them I don't know how'd they all work together.
themakerista@gmail.com says
I've struggled with that too. That's why the orangerie fabric has been a lifesaver for me. I can mix almost anything now because I can tie them all back to it!
