Ok, to be honest, that word “squad” is a bit overused read: trendy right now and for that reason I don’t love it, but it’s really the definition of what I’m talking about today. I’ve realized something in the last few months. I think that we look at bloggers and designers and say to ourselves “man, they just get it. They can put stuff together that I could never dream of. I wish I had that kind of gift.” I’ve had this same convo in my head…you’re not alone.
And sure, there’s truth in that. Not everyone has an eye for design and that’s ok. There will always be people ahead of you in their design journey and that’s ok. I don’t want to speak for everyone in this creative realm, but I do want to say this: I don’t do this design thing alone! I definitely envision spaces and find most things myself, but I am constantly bouncing ideas off of my “sisters in creativity” and going to them when I get stuck. The creative process is a beast. It’s filled with lots of self-doubt and uncertainty every. single. time. and having others there to encourage and support is so important!
I love texting with my design friends, but these last few months I’ve really needed them. Between the kitchen renovation and the One Room Challenge, my design limitations have been pushed. I was feeling exhausted at the start of the challenge and then I found out it wasn’t just the renos that were doing me in…

Turns out I’ve had a pretty good reason to not feel myself! Two renos at once was crazy enough but to add on top of that nausea and exhaustion…let’s just say I didn’t stand much of a chance. Micah always works hard on our projects, but he’s had to do so much more these last few months. Along with the exhaustion has come a state of design uncertainty and a lack of inspiration. Indecisiveness could have been my middle name but thank goodness I’ve had my sister, Laura, Grace, Kristin and Sarah on speed dial. My squad came to the rescue when I couldn’t decide between the brass or the chrome hardware and needed a new pouf choice in a jiffy.
I’m finally coming out of the fog and looking forward to wrapping up these two renos with some more energy again. We’ve got until about the first week of November before we become a family of five, so Micah and I are both hoping to take a bit of a renovation break and just enjoy the pool as the weather warms. We’ll definitely be tackling a space or two before this baby arrives, but I’m hoping I can hold off that itch for a few months…Micah’s praying…
