I was raised to regard thank you notes as a necessity. I remember how much I didn’t enjoy writing them when I was little, but I’m really grateful for the habit my mom instilled in me. I still try to take the few extra minutes to write them today. Xander isn’t to the point of writing yet, but I think it’s important to include him in the process, and I found a way to do so.
I’ve seen several different white crayon + watercolor art projects on Pinterest and thought it would translate well to a card.
I simply wrote “thank you” in white crayon and let Xander have at it with the watercolors. He’s type A (wonder where he gets it), so sometimes he struggles with letting loose. I think doing art projects like this is helpful.
It really is a quick and simple way for your kids to show gratitude and appreciation.
Do you like a hand-written note as much as I do?

Genius! Teaching good manners thru a craft. Love it. 🙂
I am big on writing thank you cards. Every time I go to TJ Maxx I take a look at their stationery section and buy a bunch of random boxes of note cards. I think I may adapt this for holiday cards.
Thanks for reading, Carolyne! I love the cards at TJ Maxx, too!
Gorgeous, what a great way to get your kids involved! You know how much I love thank you notes 😉 xo
The necessity of thank you notes was instilled in me super young, too! I still LOVE doing it… there's just something so sweet about spending a few minutes to tell someone how grateful you are for something they did/said/etc. I might use this idea for myself – great idea for Christmas thank yous 🙂 Keep doing what you're doing, lady. Always love reading.
I appreciate the encouragement, Lindsay! Thanks!
so smart! i wish my parents taught me the skill of thank-you cards, I'm so terrible at them, it's such a chore! but I know how much they mean to people, I just wish I had learned the skill to bust them out effortlessly as a kid and it wouldn't be so painful as it is now lol.
Even though I was taught to do it, it's still hard sometimes! I find to sit down and write one is easy…it's when you have to write a lot after a birthday or a wedding (how was that for you? 🙂 ) is when it's the most difficult!
Same here. I was raised to write thank you notes and I'm forcing (yup) my kids to do so now too. Love this idea!
Glad I'm not the only one!
Yes to thank you notes! This is such a fun idea, my kid will love this. Thanks!
Glad I could give you a fun project. Thanks for reading, Heather!
Really cute idea! I read once that great photos have something alive in them – a pet, a plant, or a child. So maybe those little Milly fingers are actually a plus 🙂
I've heard that thought and it's stuck with me too! Glad I'm not alone. 🙂
These are so great Gwen! Super cute! xo Kristin
I love these. My boys and I just made some with potato stamps…they are too cute. Trying to get ahead on all the soon holiday thank you notes that we will be writing! But, I would kill for your amazing handwriting…mine looks crazy & scary…like either a school age child or a serial killer. :/ It's really bad.
Ha, I'm sure it's not crazy AND scary. Just a lot of practice doodling during class in high school and college. 🙂
What is the blue backround under the cards (adorable idea, btw)? The color and pattern are lovely!
Hi Kimberly! Thanks for the inquiry. The background is a fabric by Robert Allen. You can find it here. I'm hoping to make a pillow or two with it soon! Thanks for reading!
totally doing this! great idea!
Megan from Chasing Davies
Thanks so much, Megan!
What a super cute idea!! I love that they helped make them 🙂 That blue agate fabric is gorgeous too!!
Thanks, Sarah!
Love this idea! The white crayon writing + water color combo would look great on gift tags too! PS: your handwriting is killer! Love it 🙂
What a fabulous idea, heck I'd love to make some of my own and I don't even have a kid yet!
Hi, thanks for the great idea! One silly question…what did you put on the inside of the card?? Thanks!
Heidi, not silly. 🙂
I just used flat notecards, so there was no inside. Keeps it really simple. Thanks for reading!
We tried this this past weekend and it was a flop! I'm thinking maybe our watercolour paper was too heavy, the crayon- faulty lol, or the watercolours too good. In the end- I outlined the "thank you" and we went a little crazy with some glitter. There is nothing that glitter can't fix!
