A few months ago, when I shared Connor’s bedroom with you, I mentioned that his Mary McDonald lamps were on my home decor bucket list. These stunners are pricey, but they’re a classic that can work in virtually any space. I remember loving them five years ago…I don’t think that love is going anywhere.
I’ve spent hours looking for lamps for the nightstands. When it comes to sourcing products, I’m not one of those people who can put together a space in a flash. I must see everything before I make a decision. I kept coming up short. My first thought was a simple gourd, but everything I found was too tall or too white I wanted a bit of ivory to not “match” the marble tops.
Lamps Plus has thousands of options, and when I stumbled upon the beloved Annika in cream, I knew it was meant to be. The shade alone is incredible. The glossy outside feels so luxe, and the glow of the metallic gold inside gives the effect that the light is on, even when it isn’t. The base compliments the nightstands so well, and I can’t wait to see them against the curtains.
I’m all about that mix of “save so you can splurge,” so save I did on the chandelier. I chronicled the whole process over on Instagram stories we about killed each other getting it up, but I snagged this beauty for free. Micah was remodeling a store last fall, and I stopped in one day to say hi. They were demoing and this chandelier was on the floor. I asked what he’d be doing with it and he said “putting it in the dumpster.” I said, “uh…no.” In the back of my car it went, and it’s been in the basement ever since. I guess I need to stop by his job sites more often! I honestly intended it to just be a placeholder up here until I found something I really loved, but now that it’s in the room, I think it’s the perfect fit.
I wasn’t sure what to do about the lights. It came with round bulbs, but that mix wasn’t really working in this space. I tried some fabric shades, but they were a bit much. I had settled on just using traditional chandelier bulbs and leaving them exposed when my dad showed up at my door with these. He volunteers at our local ReStore I know, I’m lucky and thought they might be a good fit for the chandelier. Perfection!
Next up is window treatments. I think it’s really going to tie it all together!
The best part of working in the bedroom? I can keep a close eye on the sleeping beauty next door…she’s that swaddled up little ball.
Do you save so you can splurge?

I admit when I first saw your chandelier I didn’t see your attraction to it, but silly me for questioning you because as the room is coming together I think it looks beautiful. This is why I always just say “yes” to you. You know what you’re doing girl!

Ha, yes, I wasn’t sure I’d love it at first either, but I knew anything was better than the ugly fan!

That’s sweet of you! Honestly, I often wish I could just throw things together! I get frustrated living in “the progress” quite often. 😉

Would have loved a peek at the gold inside the lamp shade. Beautiful room

Oh, good thought, Kathryn, I’ll be sure to include that when I post the reveal!

I admire your patience so much. Why am I always in a hurry to complete my projects? This room is equally as gorgeous as the rest of your house. You are my décor hero as stated in one of the comments above.

Because we all like immediate gradification? 😉 Honestly, I just can’t push it through with the little kids, etc. but it definitely helps me make more thought out decisions! You’re so kind, thanks Dianne!

Gwen, I love your style so much. Just wondering though, have you noticed the nightstands being too tall? I tried having a bigger chest by my bed and it was always frustrating in the middle of the night to reach for something because it was up too high.
themakerista@gmail.com says
I actually love the height! It’s perfect if you’re setting up in bed, and high enough to not knock things over when you’re asleep. Our last nightstands sat low and I very often would spill my water in the middle of the night. :/

OMG! That lamp, I am so in love with it.

They are so incredible!

I would love to see a “look for less” post because the prices of most of this room are way out of reach for a lot of folks.
themakerista@gmail.com says
Hi Brianne! I’ve actually considered doing that. There are only three pieces in here that are an investment…pretty much everything else was thrifted or taken from somewhere else!
