When I first started concepting our dining room for Halloween, my initial idea was something gruesome running down the table. I came across these bags of bones, and they seemed like the perfect item to focus on: the bones are sculptural, graphic, and provide a lot of impact without being too much.
I got six bags so I could have an odd number of skulls on each side of the table. First I matched all of the different bones up.
I started with the femurs and rib cages. Ha. Lay the femurs longways and stack them and the ribcages for some height.
Next I added in the skulls. Be sure to alter the direction of the faces for interest.
Then I tucked in the radius/ulna bones my medical parents are surely relishing this moment, as it’s the only time I’ve ever discussed anatomy filling in under the ribcages and along the sides.
Followed by the feet and vertebrae…
and the hands.
Next I broke off some rose and carnation heads to tuck in along with some spiders.
Add candlelight in the form of little votives to set the mood.
Votives on the table at a dinner party instantly create a glow on your guests. And they look beautiful and a little spooky flickering inside the ribcages too.

Ha! This is fantastic and perfect in your moody dining room. I'm getting irrationally excited for decorating for Halloween this year now that we're finally in a real live house!

So . . . is it true what the reviewer on Grandinroad said about the bones, that they come with assembly attachments on the ends, as if originally meant for a fully assembled skeleton? Just curious, because I don't see any assembly hinges on your tablescape. Did you have to remove them before using, or did yours not come with hinges?

They do have ends that seem to fit into other pieces, but it doesn't really bother me in the big scheme…no attachments though. If you look at the individual bones in the pictures, you can see what I'm talking about. Hope that helps!
