⋅JILL ROSENWALD Items for our One Room Challenge are coming in almost every day, and this bowl by Jill Rosenwald was something I couldn’t just stash away until the sunroom was ready for it. Jill and her team hand make every piece in Boston to perfection and are open to customization. It’s going to look fabulous in the office, but the kitchen will be a little less cheery without it!
⋅CHOCOLATE SKULL CAKE Michael always puts so much time and talent into his decor and entertaining, and his Halloween Home Tour did not disappoint. The chocolate skull cake he made stopped me in my tracks. Not only does it look tasty, it’s so tastefully done…you know I love a little Halloween chic!
⋅FEATURES I’m not so good at tooting my own horn, but I wanted to share a few features I’ve been included in that were total honors. Not just to be mentioned, but to be included with the others is really kind. Check out these lists on HGTV and One Kings Lane.
⋅SKINCARE Beauty blogger I am not, but truth be told I’ve had problems with my skin for the last 3 years. From adult acne to candida, my face has been a wreck, and I’ve tried more products and treatments than I can count I even went plant-based for almost a year. Most of you might be surprised to hear this, but I don’t leave the house without makeup, and I have really good photographers who capture me in the best of light. I was talking to my OB about it during one of my prenatal visits a few months ago and she mentioned that she had just opened up a wellness center to help women deal with exactly this kind of thing.
I’ve trusted her with my body and my babies she is seriously the best, it was worth a try trusting her with my skin. I’ve been using Dr. Carter’s recommended products for about two months now, and I am amazed and overjoyed to say that I haven’t had a breakout in almost a month – shattering any sort of record over these last few years! The fact that I’m pregnant crazy hormonal and not able to use a lot of intense products makes this even more exciting. I can’t wait to see what we can do when this babe is no longer living on the inside. I’ll be sure to share more later, but if you’re in the KC area, struggling in any way with your skin, and looking for a group of down-to-earth, friendly women to help you, you should check out Kansas City Wellness Center. Please tell me I’m not the only one over here wishing my skin looked half as good as it did when I was teenager?
⋅THE DURRELLS IN CROFU I’m usually watching British mysteries, but this new show on PBS’s Masterpiece is about a widow and her four strong-willed children who move to a Greek island in 1935 to get away from their lives in England and start fresh. It’s charming and beautiful…refreshing by today’s TV standards. You should be able to watch the first episode online or on the PBS app for a week or so.
⋅37 WEEKS Only a few weeks left! Truth be told, my body is so done being pregnant, but there are still things I’d like to get done before this little one comes…like the nursery, maybe? Standing leads to lots of swelling and sitting leads to sore ribs and a ton of pressure. Laying down is about the only comfortable position at this point, and once I’m down it’s really hard to get back up! The carseat arrived last week. Micah and I both had the “oh wow, this is really happening” reaction. I should probably pack a bag and buy some diapers and wipes, huh?
I’ll be back tomorrow with a One Room Challenge update. Things are getting good!

Thanks for the tip on the wellness center. I’m in Des Moines and may consider a visit there. My once normal skin has been a mess since I turned 35, and all the dermatologists I saw thought it was sun related. I actually think it’s dairy causing it, but even when I eliminate it, I can’t believe how much worse my skin looks than even in my early 30s. Natural products, like the face oil from Beauty Counter and the charcoal mask, have really helped.

I tried oil cleansing and that actually brought out the candida issue I was having. I’ve been so impressed with Dr. Carter and her staff. I pray you find the fix because I know how disheartening bad skin can be. It’s something you totally take for granted until you have problems with it, and then you’d give up almost anything to just have good skin. Keep me updated, Jillian!

I absolutely adore Milly’s nursery! You made such unique beautiful color choices, just love it!! Do you remember where you got the window blinds in your dining room? They look neat and I am looking for new window treatments for my dining room and living room. Thanks!
themakerista@gmail.com says
Thank you! They are from Loom Decor. You can read more about them here: http://www.themakerista.com/the-finishing-touches-on-dining-room/. Window treatments are an investment, but so worth it!

You are such a talent and Superwoman too. You finish ORC and give birth with ease. Your social media fans ( me included) will be cheering you on. Hugs!

Oh, you’re sweet. If you were hear you might use a different word than ease…I know my husband would, ha! Thanks for the support and hope you’re having a great week!

For the last two years I have been struggling with my skin, so your bullet point about skin care really spoke to me. I’ve spent so much time and money trying different products to try to get it under control and it’s so disheartening. I wish I lived near KC but if you could do a post later about the products you’re using that have worked, I would so appreciate it!
themakerista@gmail.com says
I definitely will, and Kathryn, shoot me an email and we can discuss further now if you’re interested! themakerista(at)gmail(dot)com

I love reading your bullet points! I really appreciate the tip about the wellness center. I have struggled with my skin for a few years now (never had issues as a teenager either) and feel like I have tried everything, but nothing really works. I am in the KC area too so I will definitely be giving them a call!
themakerista@gmail.com says
You definitely should! I’ve been amazed with how quickly they were able to assist and how much better things are. It’s such a difficult (and often silent) thing to deal with. Keep me updated, Allie!

The Durrells is based on the book My Family and Other Animals by the naturalist Gerald Durrell. He’s written loads about his life, work and travels and they’re a really good read.

I’ll have to check that out, thanks for the recommendation Victoria!
