Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and I was asked by one of my talented blog friends, Claire, to take part in a little series called “So I Married a Blogger.” Micah and I have been married for over seven years now, and it feels like we’ve really gotten into a groove over the last couple. The beginning of our relationship was pretty fast…we met, started dating about a month later, got engaged six months later, were married nine months after that and had Xander a week before our one year anniversary. I knew we were a good match from the start, but those first few years of so much newness were often challenging. I had a lot of growing up to do, we both did and still probably do but I can say while I’ve always loved my husband I definitely like him a lot more now than I did as newlyweds. Ha.
With time we’ve learned each other’s needs and how to meet them. We’ve become less selfish and more kind. I wasn’t a blogger when we got married, and the hats I’ve worn since then have changed quite a bit: from working wife, to stay-at-home mom, to now work-at-home mom. I emailed Micah some questions about being a blogger’s better half and thought it would be fun to share them with you today. I put some of my own comments in italics too. 🙂
How are you involved with Gwen’s blog?
I help with all projects that are done on our house. Except the styling!!
How often do you read the blog? Are you an avid reader or do you see enough at home?
I read the majority of Gwen’s posts. I’m proud of my wife and what she has achieved. He shares my posts more than I do sometimes, he’s very supportive!
How much time does Gwen spend on her blog? What are her hours like?
She mainly works on her blog at night after the kids go to bed. Sometimes she stays up pretty late editing photos or putting a post together. This is pretty true. The days are mainly spent on email (that feels never-ending) and projects/styling/shooting and the nights are filled with editing and writing.
Are you the cheap manual labor or is there hired help for that? In other words, does Gwen use you for your handy work?
I’m the cheap labor. Most of the DIY’s I’m the one that helps her with them. Occasionally my dad helps, depending on the project. DIYs around the house are my love language. 🙂
Describe Gwen’s style.
Bold colors, fancy, English, different, difficult Difficult – ha!
Describe your style.
Modern and simple. I think this is where so much of my desire to have minimalism within my spaces comes into play. As long as something isn’t busy, Micah will be happy.
How often does your home change?
Our home doesn’t change that often. The only thing that changes is her styling of a room. We like to tackle one room at a time and once we have finished them all I’m sure we will go back and make changes. I like that he’s already prepared for this.
How many different sofas have you had since marrying Gwen?
5 in the past 7 years. That sounds like a lot, but other than a microfiber monstrosity (that he bought without me) they’ve all been really loved. We still have two of them and the other two are in family member’s homes now.
How often do you offer decorating advice? Does she consider your opinion?
I don’t offer decorating advice for the sake of starting an argument. She considers my opinion to a certain point when it comes to styling. I just let her do her own thing, but there are places in our house that she lets me style (the garage and the basement). This is where I need a laughing so hard I’m crying emoji. It is true, I always consider him, but the true is I’ve usually got a room pretty much mapped out in my head before I approach him with the hopes of starting the space. Poor guy doesn’t have a chance.
What’s your favorite room in the house? Why?
The library because it’s been the room we’ve put the most time and work into to complete it.
What does it really look like behind the camera?
2 crazy kids, Jake (our black lab), Gwen in sweat pants, and I’m most likely playing video games. And lots of dog hair. Yep.
What is a project that you hate but have never voiced (or maybe you have)?
I’ve never really hated any of the projects, but I did think I would during the project. Every. Time. “We’re not doing that!”
Do you know of Gwen’s blogger friends? If so, who’s your favorite?
I’ve seen pictures of them, and Gwen is on the phone late at night with a girl named Grace a lot, but I’ve never met any of them. I have and it’s nice to feel like I can call them real friends now instead of just internet friends.
What’s your favorite aspect of Gwen being a blogger? Least favorite?
My favorite would be the products we get that have helped us makeover this house, and my least favorite is when Gwen stresses out about a project or putting together a post. Me? Stress? Never.
What are your household chores?
Taking care of the yard, pool, taking the trash out and picking up the dog poop in the yard. I’ll never do that last one.
What’s something about Gwen that her readers might not know (but she would be okay with you sharing)?
That she likes wearing the same Christmas pajama pants that I bought her for an ugly Christmas sweater party 3 years ago. She wears them all year round. If she doesn’t have anything going on that day that’s her go-to outfit. Guilty as charged. For days on end.
What does Gwen REALLY want for Valentines day, and what are you getting her?
She really wants our kitchen remodel to get started, so I’ll be working on it this weekend. That’s what she asked for. Gwen and our son, Xander, are going on a date for Valentine’s Day. It’s true on both accounts. I’d almost always rather Micah do something for me than buy me something. And Xander told me he wanted to wear a suit and take me to dinner. 🙂
I love learning more about the people behind the blog, and I’m really excited to read through the other ladies participating today. Be sure to check them out below.
What are your Valentine’s Day plans?
If you notice a few changes around the blog, I’ve been busy making some updates around here. This blog has looked the same since it’s start and it was about time to upgrade some things. Please excuse the mess while we make the sight more functional and efficient!
