I gave you a glimpse of the San Francisco project, but today I thought I’d go a bit more in depth. Joannie and Evan have killer style, and they already had a ton of great pieces, but we did some rearranging, pulled out things they had in storage and added more finishing touches along the way.
The buffet in the dining room was in pretty good shape, but I actually removed several items for this final look. We often think that when things are off we need to add something, but sometimes the solution is as simple as taking something away.
The one thing I did add was this resin tray. A tray will take a group of things and instantly upgrade it to a collection. Evan and Joannie love to support artists, and the tray was made by a local craftsman so it was a win/win.
Joannie purchased this piece shortly after having her son. She felt like it showed the power of a woman, and I love the color it adds to this beautifully neutral moment in the hallway.
While the couple prefers simple and soothing furnishings and accessories, they clearly aren’t afraid of art with color and personality. This piece by Evan’s late uncle has lived with him in 7 different homes (and several different frames).
It’s certainly a conversation starter, but the story behind it is equally as great, and the juxtaposition of it against the classic piano and Victorian mouldings feels right.
One of the first things I suggested was adding a console to this side of the living room. Joannie and Evan found this wood and metal piece at a local store, and we’re still on the hunt for some benches or ottomans to go underneath. The console is rather shallow only 16″ so finding something has been tricky, but we’re exploring having a piece or two custom made for extra seating when they’re entertaining.
Art doesn’t have to be something you hang on the wall. The couple met the artist of this adorable little bunny in Colorado and fell in love with Chauncey. The hands on the hips are too much.
The domino set is beautiful and playful and designed by Barbara Cosgrove, a Kansas City native, so the tie to their hometown feels special.
I can’t take credit for the 12′ tall fiddle leaf fig Joannie’s a plant whisperer, but man, it’s impressive. Fiddle leaf figs are certainly popular at the moment, but this one takes the cake.
Joannie picked out this crystal and chain chandelier, and I think the mix within the piece is a perfect representation of their style.
When you’re dealing with neutrals, it’s all about textures. The rug, pillow and tufted ottoman add interest without being loud.

I love it all! Do you know where the rug is from? Thanks!

It's from Serena & Lily. And it's rather reasonably priced and pretty soft for a jute!

Any chance you can give the source on that round mirror?
Beautiful space. I think the word "curated" is overused, but that is the word that comes to mind here.
