I never really realized how expensive bedding was until I started trying to refresh our master. We were still using most of the linens my husband’s mom had bought him out of college, and while they were great quality, the use of those 8 years was definitely apparent. A few euros with shams, a new set of sheets, and a standard set of shams left me shocked and penniless (even with the coupons at one store and the discounts at another, I was forking over hundreds of dollars). But I figured I couldn’t go wrong with white, and I might as well spend on classic quality.
While out shopping with Brenda for the DIY shoot, we came across this quilt at Target, and I knew it was just what the space needed. For $40 it would bring great energy, and I wouldn’t feel guilty if I decided to change it up sooner than later. The striped blanket from Nate’s line brings a bit of sophistication and masculinity to balance the yellow.
I was thrilled with how the yellow and icy blue of the lamps I spray painted looked together. These are two colors I’ve found myself surprisingly drawn to lately; I keep seeing them pop up in fashion and I can’t help but embrace those little sprouts of a trend. If I would have stayed in New York, trend forecasting was the avenue I had hoped to take with my career, so I guess it’s makes sense that I still get excited when I incorporate something that seems to be on the cusp.
I’m glad we finally decided to update our own space. It seems so common for people to neglect their own bedrooms, and I’m really amazed how much better I feel about our home now that our bedroom and bathroom (hope to share that space soon) are a better reflection of ourselves. This room has become an area I enjoy spending time in, and I love that it’s light and bright -making it easier for this night owl to get up in the morning.
You can see more about the space’s progression here and here.

Looks lovely Gwen! I really like the striped throw. I just finished re-doing our master, and I agree, it feels great to have a space that really reflects us!!
Thanks, Denise! Yes, it's amazing how much better my day starts and ends. Maybe the next house I'll focus on the bedrooms first. 🙂
Love the pop of yellow and those blue lamps!
Thanks, Bethany!
gorgeous updates! really love all the layers of bedding.
Thanks so much!
The lighting and bedding are perfect together. love the look
It looks great! I love the combination of colors!
Pretty! The yellow is lovely in there!
I just bought the gray version of that quilt. It is so soft! I love the yellow in your room.
It looks beautiful. You are right, bedding is major bucks but a good investment.
ohhh! love the bedding and the lamps! especially the lamps! I decorated in yellow and blue in my first apartment out of college (more along the farmhouse look tho, cant believe how far i've come!) and its still one of my favorite color combos 🙂
Isn't it funny to look back at some of your own decor decisions. For me it's often "yikes." Ha. I do think it's kind of a fun, modern take on the color combo. Thanks, Brittany!
The ice blue and yellow combo is great…I can admit it – I had no idea! 🙂 When I started reading your post I thought, "oh, how pretty". Then, I scrolled down to see the full picture and that yellow – and I thought, "wow, nailed it!"
Rachel, I wouldn't have ever thought of it either, but when I was down to the wire and left with few options, it seemed so perfect! I love when things work out that way. Thanks so much!
Looks lovely! Quite a change from before! I love the light & bright.
Did you get those nesting tables at Home Goods?? I swear I saw the exact set there a few weeks ago and I have been daydreaming about them, and regretting not buying them, ever since!
Oh, I just love it! So nice and bright and airy. Those lamps! How clever to think to hang them on the wall! Maybe all the cool people know about that, and I'm just out of the table-lamp-becomes-sconce loop! Because they're table lamps, right? And yes…those nesting tables! Love. Beautiful space!
Autumn, they actually are wall lamps. 🙂 I've never had any before, but thought it was the perfect idea. We used to have lamps setting on the headboard and they were knocked off several times in the middle of the night 🙂 and I like that this doesn't take up any nightstand space!
Ohhhhhhh….okay. Well, I love them just the same. 🙂
This room turned out even more gorgeous Gwen! I love, love, love those blue lights and the wall color is perfect!
Thanks so much, Summer!
The color scheme is a great variation on the traditional French country kitchen color palette, like Monet's kitchen in Giverny. I love it!
I have had this post up on my computer for the last two days now – I can't stop looking at it! I agree with you about the cost of bedding. I was shocked when I bought my last set too. I got them from Homegoods as well so the price was already discounted heavily. This is almost the exact colour scheme I had in my head for our master and you just pulled all my thoughts together. Thanks for that! Saves me from any costly mistakes. 🙂
Real nice setup you have here, those lamps are good for reading at night.
Yes, they are, and thanks Jay!
Your bedroom looks so good! I love the quilt and striped blanket. I've totally neglected our bedroom so far as well. I'm inspired to give it some love now 🙂
Thanks so much, Aileen! Yes, I hope you are inspired to make your space something you love too!
It looks fantastic! My boyfriend just decided that we need new bedding….after I have been complaining for months. Guys just need to think it's THEIR idea, but hey I'll go along to get new sheets!
Exactly!
Love this! Little touches yet looks so lovely. I am in the process of coming up with new ideas for our bedroom and this helps! Thanks!
Oh, thanks so much, Noey! Glad it could inspire you a bit!
Love the yellow and powder blue together-so fun!
Thanks, Heather!
Looks lovely and that icy blue color works beautifully! I've had my eye on that mustard cover at Target and just noticed it went on sale. Gotta rush over!

I'm here revisiting this post from your yearly recap… would you recommend your wall lights? Do they swing to the sides? I have been thinking about them since I first read your post but they have bad reviews and that kept me from pulling the trigger. I keep searching for something similar that will work for my (very small) budget but keep coming back to those. Would really appreciate your opinion 😉
PS. Happy New Year!!!
Hi Sandra! Thanks for reading and reaching out! They don't swing to the sides, and to be honest, we didn't have a ton of time to use them when before we moved and they got packed away in storage but the experience we did have with them was great on our end. We never moved them around though, we just set them in one spot and left them there. Hope that helps some, I do think for the price they were good quality! Best of luck and happy new year to you!
Love your bedding! Looking for a good set of white bedding to start the new year- can you tell me where you got the sham covers and pillow cases? Thanks!!
Thanks, Amanda! I got the shams at Bed Bath & Beyond and the sheets are Homegoods. Best of luck finding some things!
