We may be moving, but that certainly isn’t stopping my desire to make. My husband’s cousin and I have a great time texting back and forth on design, and she’s often the person I reach out to when I find a treasure I need advice on, a second opinion, or just to share in my excitement (I know most people aren’t that enthused by the junk I discover or the great deal I come across).
So when she asked my thoughts about freshening up one of their bedrooms, I was ready to come help. Samantha has 4 kids and her two youngest (a 2 year old boy and a 6 month old girl) share an adorable room. While Sam had brought in some girly touches for Mollie Mae, she didn’t necessarily have a designated space of her own.
Painting an accent wall is not a new concept, but taping off a smaller portion of the wall to create a color-blocked effect felt like a fresh and modern approach.
When trying to decide what color to go with, we took the bright green crib and the pink and red accents Sam had already added into consideration. My first thought was a mint that complimented the crib. I turned to Glidden® paint because their simplified palette would make it easier for us busy moms to decide on a shade over text messaging. Sam picked up a few samples and sent me some pictures of them next to the wall and crib. Glidden paint’s Mint Shake was the perfect shade.
We taped off the wall at about the halfway point and then used the original paint color to paint over the bottom seam. By doing this, you ensure a crisp line every time. If there are any gaps for paint to seep through, the original wall color will do so.
Once that was dry, using a brush, I cut in with the new color.
After rolling the rest of the wall I let it dry and painted on a second coat.
Sometimes I forget what a few hours and a little paint can do. The designation of the space makes quite an impact in this sweet little room of theirs. Have you been doing any painting lately?
We had quite the party this last Saturday for my two favorite little girls, and I look forward to sharing it with you soon!

Great color Gwen 🙂 It's so great to have a partner in thrifting, my friends could care less so I bet it is nice to have someone to gush over things with 🙂

That did such a great job of adding some color and fun without having to pain the whole room. Great idea!

Love this! Simple but bold. I have to ask where you purchased those adorable curtains?

Thanks! I believe those are just Ikea curtains with some ball fringe added on. A pretty easy DIY!

What a great idea to separate an area of a room. The size of the crib is perfect for that section of wall! I love it!

What a great room design I can't believe you made that photo. I know my teenage daughter has been asking for a canopy bed for some time, so I'll forward her this post.
