It’s been a while since I’ve updated you on the status of the wood room I can’t stop calling it that and things are really coming along! As I’ve mentioned before, this is a space I’m taking my time with. One new purchase reveals another, and it’s less stressful when you can take your time and thoughtfully hunt and choose the perfect pieces. Over the last few months I’ve picked up things here and there that add so much warmth and a bit of personality.
The biggest change has definitely been the new rug. It was a decision I hemmed and hawed over for a month or two, trying to decide between this one and this one, but in the end the Hugo won. You can order samples through Annie Selke, and I can’t recommend that enough. Purchasing something so large without seeing it in person first and specifically in the space is taking a chance I’d rather not take. The rug is so plush. It could not feel better underfoot. It’s traditional materials play well against it’s modern pattern that isn’t too precious for kids and all of the people we enjoy having over. I love the tassel trim. It’s the perfect length to add interest without being fussy or messy looking when not neatly combed.
This cabinet is one of the best things I’ve ever found on Facebook Marketplace. If you’re not shopping there, you really should be! The older couple I bought it from was using it as a TV cabinet, but I’m keeping some barware and decor items in it at the moment. The wood grain is just stunning, the greek key feels so expensive, and the little brass knobs are adorable. I’m still searching for the perfect mirror for above it if you only knew how many mirrors I’ve looked at and trying to be patient and not settle for something that’s close. For now this French beauty I got at a garage sale will do.
With the bar area going so traditional I’d really love to have something more modern over the fireplace. Don’t worry, the oil painting will find a new home. The coffee table was another Marketplace find and most of the items on it were thrifted as well. The book with the eye is a new favorite find. It has the most stunning pages to flip through and would also make incredible wall art if you’re willing to take it apart. While this side of the room looks pretty pulled together, the back half is in desperate need of some arranging and styling.
If the sofa stays in this position, I’m thinking it needs a console table behind it. It would have to be rather thin, but would break up the back nicely.
And then we have this side to contend with. The mauve buffet went to my sister’s, and I splurged on the single most exciting purchase of my home decor treasures: an Italian modern game table. I will definitely show you more as the details are amazing once we get things put together a bit. This red topped beauty is the perfect place to puzzle, something I really love to do in my spare time. Not that I have much of that in this current season of life, but having a puzzle out forces me to put to-do’s aside and just focus on one thing. It’s bliss.
The Louis chairs are the perfect comfort and height, but the wrong style and color. Because I want the table’s beautiful legs and scallops to shine I’m looking for a chair that is skirted and simple. Micah needs to move the router he’s thrilled and we need to jazz up the wall a bit too.
I have one more big switch that is going to really help with the visual design of the room. We also need art and more lamps to really come to life, but for now some grocery store flowers and a cute little girl will have to do.
*Thank you to our partner, Annie Selke, for providing the rug. All thoughts, selections, and opinions are my own.

It’s coming along so nicely! Love the rug! And just give in on the name. It will always be “the wood room.” The main living room in my sorority house in college was called “the purple room” even though it hadn’t been purple in over 10 years by the time I pledged. I think they still call it the purple room all these years later! 🙂

Your “wood room” is coming along so beautifully! I love the not matchymatchy feel. It really looks collected and cozy and I applaud you for taking your time. Your patience definitely shows in the design. I’m even liking the Louis chairs, from the standpoint of making do with beautiful pieces! Well done! (Also the new area rug is just right.)

I think I’m on week three of searching online for a tea kettle (just can’t decide between copper or black!)……rugs take me at least two months too. Thanks, world wide web, for your endless options and search opportunities!

You are me! It’s so hard for me to bite the bullet on something that isn’t really pretty or exactly how I envision. I’m with you!

I just LOVE this room. It is so serene now that the wood is painted. Nothing is fighting against each other – it’s just so restful and pretty. How about a beautiful floor lamp on each side of the sofa?
themakerista@gmail.com says
Thanks, Molly! It’s so true. It’s definitely an idea. I wish we had a floor outlet. That’s the problem with floating everything in the middle… 😉

Beautiful room but I would never leave the library…I dream of long uninterrupted hours of reading my favorite authors.
Where did you purchase your sofa?
themakerista@gmail.com says
Thank you! This sofa is from Arhaus. I believe they still have it. It’s called the Outerbanks.

I’ve never seen a ceiling treatment in this kind of design – it’s so unique! I’m inspired to do something similar to help embrace how our entry opens to our open living room. Did you guys do this or was this original?
themakerista@gmail.com says
Thank you, it was already there! The house definitely had some great little details that drew us to it!
