I’m excited to be sharing some holiday props with you that I’ve created in partnership with Tiny Prints today.
My initial thought was to create a piece that helps make your holiday card a standout, but I seemed to just keep making and thinking of all sorts of uses along the way.
These are not only great for Christmas card pictures, but would be fun for a holiday party, a winter program, or as dress up items for your children.
The pipe cleaner crowns could make a great addition to a princess party too – a handful of them is doable in less than an hour, for just a few dollars.
Let’s first start with the felt crown. You’ll need some felt, scissors, a sewing machine, and this pattern.
Sew down the two short sides and turn the seams to the inside. Pretty simple. You could definitely embellish with some felt jewels (just make some diamond or faceted shapes) or some rhinestones, but Xander liked it plain so I obliged.
It never fails that Milly only lasts for a few minutes and then needs some pretzels or a cheese stick to focus.
The pipe cleaner crown was an afterthought. I picked up the pipe cleaners as I was roaming the aisles of Michael’s and hoped to incorporate them into the felt projects somehow. When that didn’t happen, I tried to think of how they could be used on their own.
You’ll want to start with 5 pipe cleaners : 4 of the same color, and 1 a different color. Take 2 of the same colors and bend them into circles, wrapping the ends around the circle.
Stack both circles and wrap the end of another of the same color around them. Attach the other end of that pipe cleaner to the opposite side of the circle. Do the same thing with the last one, perpendicular to the other.
Now, grab the area where the two meet and push down to create a dip. You might want to shape up each side a bit after.
This is where you can get creative. Take the single colored pipe cleaner and make a shape. I went with rather classic and seasonal things, but an initial would be fun too. After some practice I found the best thing to do is start in the center of the pipe cleaner and start with the top of your shape. This allows the ends to meet at the bottom, so you don’t have to worry about anything coming loose.
Once you’ve made your shape, wrap the stem around the middle of the crown.
Along with the crowns, I created 2 different star headbands.
You can find them over on the Tiny Prints blog, so be sure to click on over.
Have a happy weekend!
