It feels like we’ve come a long way in a week, and I’m now confident that this will get done with some time to get things really looking pretty by the final reveal.
This week Micah and his dad put all of the moulding up. We had his parents and grandma over for dinner and they all pitched in. At 86, Grandma Hefner was filling nail holes and had more energy to help than I did!
I wanted to do a simple treatment on the walls, but one that had strong impact. We went with this incredibly sleek, beautiful base mould and door casing from Metrie and then did a small screen mould to create the frames. The doors are a simple shaker that plays well against the moulding and more masculine/modern space. Micah wanted to do a recessed box to hold all of the media equipment, so my father-in-law built it out of MDF and then they framed it in and trimmed it out.
We don’t have space for a big bar, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little space to store some glasses and games and set out food and drinks.
We purchased three 12×15″ in-stock upper cabinets from Lowe’s and Micah and Milly 🙂 built a base to create a little custom dry bar.
Micah primed everything last night, and our favorite painter will be here this weekend to put one beautiful coat of Elephant’s Breath it doesn’t sound so beautiful, does it? But it is! We have an old sprayer and Micah gets by with priming, but at this point we leave the spray painting to the professionals.
In extra pretty news, the pillows have arrived, and the fabric is so beautiful. It will create such a wonderful juxtaposition against the dark, clean-lined furniture.
