Putting together the sunroom without knowing the sex of our baby was sometimes challenging but certainly not impossible. Because the space will be my office for the long haul and a nursery for a year or so, I didn’t want to choose the more permanent finishes based on a baby.
Several readers wondered if the design would have been different if Domino would have been a boy, and the answer is kind of. All of the bones and furnishings would have stayed the same, but the accessories would have gone a different direction. Because Domino was a girl we used things that leaned more feminine, bringing in blush, poppy, and lavender tones in throws, art, pillows, and baby items. These were definitely the colors I initially envisioned with the wallpaper. So part of me hoped that was the way we would end up going. But I have to say, the colors I would have used with a boy look really interesting and fresh.
The lavender color in the wallpaper is actually a powder blue that just reads lavender painted on top of the orangey-red. We ended up going with a blue carpet from Karastan for the rug, and pulling more of that out to source if it was a boy felt really good. I love the richer navy’s against the energetic stripes, and that chartreuse lamp has been on my radar for quite some time now…the color and shape are beautiful! I would have brought in a lot more texture and warm wood as well to really give some masculine edge to the more glam elements.
I don’t know that I can pick a favorite the grass always does seem greener over there, doesn’t it? but do you have one?
