Thanks for all of your kind comments about the bathroom makeover. I received a lot of questions regarding some of the materials, so I thought today I’d round those up for you. Probably the most asked question was regarding the paint colors. The walls and trim are HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams for Lowe’s in Tranquil Vibe and the vanity is Dress Blues. I picked blue because it’s a color that everyone likes, and the mix of the two shades still feels bold and fresh.
I love that the mirror and hardware are both items you can pick up in just about every local Lowe’s. They’re both beautiful classics that I’ll be sure to be using in my own home soon. Did I miss anything you were interested in learning more about?

Thank you for posting such a REALISTIC bathroom makeover. Most of the blogs I follow practically had me convinced the only way to fix the builder grade bathrooms in my house was to completely gut each one. Though I may not go for bold blue vanities, I had never thought of just painting them black or grey or some other color to make them look just a bit less bland. Mine are at least white, which is better than the oak that you painted, but they still look just like every other house built in the last decade. I LOVE the mirror update, too.

Gwen, your are great on video,I like the tone of your voice. You ought to be on HGTV on a show that showcases your realistic design style and talents. You could get the nation searching for rugs on CL or sharpie markering fabrics and so much more. I hope this will open some doors for you. All the best, Karen aka AZVOGUE101

I've been meaning to watch the video since last week – it's so great! And I love what you did with the bathroom. My favorite is the tile up the wall but a close second is the glass mirror on top of the mirror. My daughters' bathroom is years away from a true makeover and I've been brainstorming easy ways to upgrade without tearing anything out. Painting the vanity and updating the hardware are definitely on the list and I think a mirror treatment like what you did may just be the missing piece for me!

Hi there! Can you please share how you hung the round mirror on the builder grade plate mirror? I have been wanting to do this in my daughter's bathroom, but I am terrified about a. having to drill into the existing plate mirror or b. hanging the decorative mirror in a way that isn't totally secure and having it fall! Love your blog!!!

Kristen, if you watch the video it shows how we hung it with 3M velcro. 🙂

Ahhhh…thank you! I was looking at the post on my phone and couldn't play the video. I will check it out asap! 🙂

Question: has the 3M velcro held up? My fear is that with the weight of the mirror, the slippery surface of the builder’s grade mirror and the steam from the showers, the adhesive would give and the mirror would come crashing down! Thanks!

Hi Renee! This is what the Lowe’s experts recommended based on it’s abilities. My husband and I have personally used liquid nails and glued the mirrors together and had luck with that. This is just a less permanent option I suppose. Best of luck!

Hi Renee! Just saw your video and was wondering how you framed your artwork? I know you said acrylic, but could you give the specifics and how you attached it to the wall? Thanks!

I used pictures standoffs. You can buy them many places online, best of luck!
