You hear it all the time – design is in the details. And it’s true. The details are what push a space over the top and make it something truly special, but honestly, sometimes I’m barely functional after getting the bones of a room finished. The details can often end up as afterthoughts, but with this house I’m really trying to avoid that. In the past we’ve come down to the nitty gritty and just picked up whatever was available at the closest hardware store. This go around I want to be intentional with every single decision. Because if this is going to be our forever home we’ve got plenty of time to get it right.
While this house was built in the 80’s, it has a surprising amount of character and quirk: multiple pairs of french doors, a plethora of windows, unexpected pocket doors, and 72 light switches. You heard that right. I only know that because one day I counted. It seemed like a ridiculous amount for the size of our house, and my counting only confirmed my presumption. 72.
Not only does that amount of switches make it hard to know what does what, it means that a lot of wall space is filled with them. If we’re going to pay attention to the details, this was no small one.
When I came across Legrand’s adorne line of switches and outlets I could see that they might be a game-changer in the detail department of this house. I knew they were pretty, but I didn’t know I could actually enjoy turning a light on.
We went with the touch feature for the switches, and it’s just so good. You barely have to press your finger on the small circle to turn it on or off. The switch makes a click and it feels really nice. Plus, the circle glows bright when they’re off and dims when they’re on: perfect for late night child checks or trips to the restroom.

As nice as they are, they are an incredibly pricey item to add to a home.

They're certainly an investment, Lori, but I love the chance to save in certain areas so I can splurge in others in our home. My husband loves techy things and it's one of the few items we've both been able to easily agree on…something beautiful (which I love) and something functional and sleek (which he loves).

I think you're right, Gwen, they really add an extra bit of chic that plain old light switches just don't have. One of those little details that some people who come to your house will actually notice but others will just take in as an overall feeling of polish in the house. What a great addition to your new house!

I'm lucky to have some beautiful brass adorne switches myself and they are like an unexpected piece of jewelry. They certainly take any room to the next level. Love mine

The brass ones are gorgeous! It's little details like these that make a room feel finished and updated. Looks amazing, Gwen!

We are installing these in our home and I love the clean look of them and that you can get any finish and color or metal you want. You can really custom your home and that is a great investment 🙂 xo

I love details like this…that look great and are functional!! We have been replacing our can lighting with LED cans. They are awesome! The light affect is the same with soft light bulb. Don't have to change them out for years, no more dusting cobwebs out of them and energy saver. Then dim too. http://www.amazon.com/UL-classified-Dimmable-Retrofit-Recessed-Lighting/dp/B00JUNY2D4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1438007260&sr=8-2&keywords=led+can+lighting

Funky! I don't think I would have realized there were such aesthetically pleasing light switches! I love the pop-out child safe ones… that is so smart.
