Making an Outfit: The Fashion Bloggers Made Me Do It and Go Blog Social 2013

This last weekend I had the chance to step out of my stretchy pants and t-shirts and trade the diaper duties and Dora the Explorer for classes on the likes of branding + strategy with some blogging beauties.  It was refreshing to feel like “Gwen” for a bit – not just mom, wife, cook (ok, who am I kidding with that one), housekeeper, if you’re a mom you know the list goes on and on.

It was nice to meet so many new people and learn a lot.  I really love to stretch myself, and stretched I was!  Last night I could not sleep with all of the ideas and information I had learned.  Much of it was well over my head at this point, but everything is hard until you learn it, right?

Here I am with Katelyn from Katalina Girl, the social media chair for the conference and an Iowa girl (I went to college in Iowa) and Corri McFadden, who started eDrop-Off, an online luxury consignment store.  Corri’s story was really inspiring and her drive and ability to work hard were very evident.

After getting to know some of the fashion bloggers at the conference, they asked me to come along with them while they shot their outfits.  Fashion blogger I am not, but I gave it a try, and I have to say it was awkwardly fun to do.  Awkward because, well, it just was and fun because they made it that!  They had such a confident, carefree spirit about it and really couldn’t care less who was watching.  I certainly would benefit from some of that chutzpah in some areas of my life!

I wish I could give you more sources for my outfit, but most of these things are really old.  The black bangle is an old Avon piece I found thrifting in college.  The shirt by Maeve I purchased at Anthropologie several months ago, but is no longer listed on their website.  I bought the boots at least 5 years ago and the red jeans I remember buying when I lived in New York (I can’t believe this September will be 6 years since I moved there!).  Those red jeans have been a staple in my wardrobe since the day I tried them on!  It’s amazing how some pieces never get old.  Do you have anything you constantly find yourself pulling out of the closet?

    Awesome pictures! I always look at fashion bloggers in awe. A good friend from Boston is a big fashion blogger in Brazil, and we would always give her a hard time about having her husband take dozens of pics of her every day. But she was totally unfazed because she loves it so much! It's just a different world to me, but you could obviously pull it off too 😉

      Thanks, Kristin! Yes, I certainly don't have enough new clothes to make things interesting. I can't believe how some girls do it every day! But if it's your passion, I guess you love doing it! Thanks for reading!

    At first, I thought you were one of the " fashionistas "( when I scrolled down and saw you rock the red jeans.) Don't sell yourself short. You look every bit as good as they do, if not better, no offense intended.
