Hope you have had a wonderful week! I’m back to share some details of the space. Most of the items are from thrift stores, hand-me-downs, or are no longer available but I will do my best to offer you some alternatives!
I had a request for the paint color. That is a somewhat tricky question. I sampled about 10 different colors before deciding on one (many were too “easter-eggy”). I bought 7 gallons of what I liked and what I brought home was not even close to the color I had tested on the wall…it was more of an ice cold blue. The guy working the paint counter that day at Lowe’s said something must have been mixed wrong with the sample batch, and he had to color match the sample quart. The mix is 107-1Y2 101-1Y9.5 103-37.5. I don’t know what any of that means, but my parents painted their master bedroom this color and that is what they needed to mix the color. We used Valspar Ultra Premium Interior paint in a flat finish. I don’t know that I would recommend a flat finish for such a high traffic area with kids. It is not the most forgiving.
I found our sofa at Nell Hills about 5 years ago. It was part of Mary’s exclusive furniture collection and not something they carry anymore, but this style has become quite popular and can be found at many different price points right now. Here is a similar one offered in the linen.
I made all of the pillowcases using fabric from Nell Hills and the floral I scored on ebay. Sewing my own cases has been one of the best cost and space saving tricks I have implemented. I have a handful of quality, down pillow inserts and I make all of my pillowcases. They are easy to switch out from season to season and storing the folded up pillowcases takes up very little space. Making them myself also allows me to spend a bit more on a really good quality fabric. The black and white throw is actually a scarf from H&M. It’s fun to keep your eyes open for things in unexpected places. As a throw, this would have been priced for much more, but as a scarf I picked it up for under $10.
The club chairs are from West Elm. Again, I finished the bones of this room several years ago, so they are no longer available, but this chair has a very similar feel and looks like it may be the same fabric.
I picked up the faux bamboo nesting tables at The Brass Armadillo. They could really use some freshening up, but overall were in great condition for $20. I really cherish the art books I have tucked under the tables and the colors in that top cover are so rich and beautiful. You can read more about how I came across the books here.
The two mirrors on the mantle are from a local home store here in Kansas City. I’ve had them for quite some time but recently painted the inner area of them black (it used to be a platinum color). I think the black draws your eye to them a bit more and helps tie them in with the rest of the space. The portrait is by Caitlin Shearer.

You have a beautiful home. Love the color of the living room. I was looking at a similar color for the dining room only a little darker. Found your site through your comment on YHL.

Okay. This is just weird. First I follow a pin of Emily Jones to your little girl's party post (I've followed her blog for years and we have several mutual friends), and as I'm browsing around I find out your in the KC area (me too!) and then I see the bottom of your blog and think "that name sounds familiar…" because it IS! I go to church with Chelsea who did this blog design! Crazy! Anyway, your home, photos, projects are just beautiful and I TOTALLY get the whole homemade-is-better-as-is-saving-money thing. 😉 Nice to "meet" you. 🙂

Hi Chelsea! Too funny! It's really nice to meet you too! It's nice to feel like this blog world isn't as big as it seems. 🙂 Looking forward to following your work!

Oh fun! Do you ever go to any of the KC blogger meet-ups or anything? I just went to Go Blog Social this last weekend and met a bunch of bloggers that all attend those meet-ups. I've never been, but hoping to at some point. Let me know if you don't know about them!
Thanks for reading and hope we can meet sometime!

themakerista@gmail.com says
Thanks for your kind words. It's actually from a tj maxx about 5 years ago. There are lots of similar trays on etsy for varying price points : https://www.etsy.com/search?q=barnwood%20tray&view_type=gallery&ship_to=US
Or maybe you know someone who could make something similar? Could be an easy project for someone with some basic woodworking skills. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Thanks so much for reading!

Hello Gwen! Fresh and inviting is how I would characterize your home and style! When I saw your bed, I had to ask about it as it is the right feel I want for my bedroom. Would you still have information on it? It has been difficult locating what I can see in my mind, so any information you will give me will be greatly appreciated! Happy to be one of your followers!

Thank you so much, Merry! I wish I could be more help with our bed, but my husband received it about 8 years ago as a college graduation gift. This one right here has a similar feel, and I actually like the color a bit more. Ours is so dark that it shows a lot of dust, etc. 🙂 I know it's a little pricey, but I know our bed wasn't cheap either.
This one here is a much better price and actually comes with storage underneath, something ours doesnt have that would be nice.
I so appreciate you reading, and hope you're having a wonderful holiday weekend!
