Now that we’ve discussed the inspiration, let’s dive into the products. Green cabinets and light counters were the vision, but let’s talk today about how we got to the right ones. It can be easy to see something in your head, but to find the right products to match your visions isn’t always easy, is it?
Now it was time to discuss functionality with my awesome Lowe’s product specialist. I do pretty well with aesthetic design, but the idea of laying out a kitchen on my own was a little scary. I’m no chef, but I’m hoping someday I’ll want to cook amazing meals for my family and friends. I want our kitchen to be well equipped and functional for any level of cooking, and Kathleen knows all about that end of things. Knowing I didn’t have to go this alone was a big relief.
A reminder of the kitchen’s current state here. We’re keeping a very similar layout because in general it works great for us, but Kathleen helped by suggesting some things to make working in here much easier. We’ve got a lot of big drawers, pull out shelves, a KitchenAid mixer cabinet and spice and baking sheet pull outs on either side of the range. One of the things I’m most excited about is the full fridge and freezer, more on that later.
I’m still working out the edges…so many options! Do I go safe, modern, traditional? We’ll be doing a waterfall edge on the peninsula and that has to come into play too. I had dreams of having an apron front sink made out of the countertop material like this but it’s apparently not possible in this quartz. I checked several times I can’t let things go, just ask Micah and the answer continued to be no, but the more I think about it the better it probably is. We have such a tight space of lowers and about half of it is filled with stainless steal appliances – range, dishwasher, garbage compactor I’m totally obsessed with ours so taking away even more cabinet for a sink front might not be the way to go. I have trouble letting go, but things usually work out for the best!
Next Saturday we gut the place, and I won’t be able to cook for some time. No tears here! We’ve got a lot more to discuss, and I’m already praying we don’t find any more surprises in the demo we already encountered a big one. Be sure to come back next week when we’ll chat about flooring, tile, and the surprise that’s thrown me for a loop.

We used Lowes for our last home's kitchen and they were great to work with and helped me come up with an awesome plan, it was my favorite kitchen! I love all your choices!! We're doing our kitchen next year and I'm thinking Quartz too so I can't wait to see how it works for you!!

I am an interior designer (now in commercial design) but I've helped clients select the Silestone Lyra several times and they never were disappointed. I usually lean towards the bevel edge, but it all depends on what is going on around the space and how a the lines/angles compliment each other. I love the green cabinet color choice. Good luck & I can't wait to see it finished.

Love the cabinets! We did the eased edge because a it was cheaper and b it was modern but classic. Have you looked at granite composite sinks like the blanco silgranite? They have apron front options, but we chose the précis in white and I love it so much, it hasn't scratched and any staining comes right off with a little bar keepers friend, 9 months later I'm still happy with the decision!

Beautiful choices! We have Kraftmaid cabinets from Lowe's and love them! The designer at our Lee's Summit Lowe's was awesome and their installer was so good! There are a few things I would change in retrospect but overall we are very happy!

Nevermind! Just found my answer! No walls being knocked down according to this rendering:) Did you consider it? Just wondering how you came to decision to keep the layout as is:)

Gwen your choices could not bet better! The sage cabinet is understated and will and depth to your room against the light countertop without making the room seem small as dark wood often can. Kitchen renovations are the hardest to live with but my favorite, none the less! The eased edge is a classic and will always look great. When do you think it will be ready?

Thanks for your thoughts! I’m not sure how long it will take, maybe that’s part of the anxiousness. 🙂
