I’ve been home for over a week now, but I’m still feeling the catch-up of being gone, and Milly continues to cling to me like I might drop her on the corner at any second. I have managed to get through the photos I took while I was there, and I wanted to show you a glimpse of my week in the Dominican. We spent most of our time with a local church in Santa Domingo, working in a public high school and teaching at a woman’s conference. The food, the people, the weather – it was all just beautiful. I couldn’t get over the decor details and the potted plants the women kept on the porches and stairways. Every indoor plant I’ve ever dreamed of was thriving on their steps and ledges.
I stayed with a woman who spoke about as much English as I speak Spanish, but I was fortunate enough to have her daughter and grandchildren around quite often (who spoke decent if not great English) to help us communicate. Her apartment was lovely, but a week with no running water and limited electricity was something that challenged me and made me grateful for the little things I have in life. Though the mango tree, ready for the picking, outside my bedroom window was something I could definitely live with.
This trip stretched me, healed me, opened my eyes a little wider, humbled me, and made my thirst for missions a bit stronger. I’ll just be quiet now and let the pictures hopefully speak for themselves. Be prepared for photo overload.
These are just some of my favorite shots, but if you’d like to see
everything you can check out this facebook album. It was an incredible
trip, one that I hope I can experience again.

Oh wow, Gwen…awesome photos. Despite all of the gorgeous scenery, my favorite is that little boy clutching those crayons. So captivating. And he is absolutely beautiful. That hair. Those eyes! Thanks for sharing. Looks like a life-changing trip.

Thanks, lady! I know, he's too cute. His mom said his hair was messy, and I said it was just perfect. 🙂

This means a lot coming from you! Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. We've actually met a few times (once at Halls in Kansas City and once at a workshop at Creative Candles) and both of those experiences left such a wonderful impression on me. It's been fun to follow your journey to Better Homes & Gardens!
