Inspiration can be found everywhere, but thanks to the internet it’s pretty incredible what can be discovered on any electronic device, anywhere on the globe. Probably my favorite forms of inspiration include travel and books (my friend Eddie just came out with the most beautiful book) but time wise and financially speaking, those can be harder to work into the everyday. So today I wanted to share places I find inspiration on a daily basis.
1. PINTEREST
It sounds like an obvious choice, but Pinterest has changed A LOT over the last few years, and I definitely don’t use it the way I used to. Gone are the days of seeing every pin your friends and favorite influencers add to their boards. Now your feed is a mix of people you follow, pins suggested by Pinterest, and promoted or sponsored pins. While I appreciate the fact that Pinterest knows I like a monochromatic and symmetrical English garden for landscaping inspiration, I don’t appreciate random products and 500 mason jar projects in my feed.
So I use it differently. I pin things I find online, but most importantly I go to my Pinterest boards when I’m about to start a project. My feed may have changed, but my boards are still filled with images I love. I’ve actually spent the last few weeks cleaning up my boards, and everything is now nice and orderly. You can follow me on Pinterest here.
I save images from this email at least a few times a week. I’m not personally spending much money at OKL, but the pictures they use to promote their sales are some of the most beautiful spaces and styled vignettes you’ll find online. You can sign up here.
Instagram is the new Pinterest. For now, anyway. There are loads of people sharing incredibly inspiring things every day. Instagram has been my go-to form of social media for some time, and while it’s starting to change in ways I’m not the biggest fan of, it’s still a great place to see beauty. You can head to my account to see who I follow for lots of inspiration, but some of my newer favorite finds are Alex Papachristidis, Sarah Walker at The Curated House, Robert Couturier, and Danielle Rollins.
Before you laugh, this is probably one of the greatest influences on my style. I grew up watching period pieces and British television, and I continue to do so. Netflix has loads of it: the acting is better, you don’t feel dumber after watching most of it sorry American television, and the settings are completely inspiring. It feels a bit like research, at least I tell myself that. I get a little watching in when I’m catching up on laundry, photo editing, or room planning. Right now I’m working my way through Midsomer Murders.
What have you implemented in your life to inspire yourself?

Hehe I love British mysteries too! Midsummer Murders is on my list of shows to dive into when I get chance. I haven't thought about drawing inspiration from them before, but I definitely will now!

Magazines (and their Instagram pages): House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Domino, and Better Homes and Gardens (I love the page with the paint swatches for the month). I also follow their Instagram accounts. Your blog is definitely a new for me!!, Sibella Court's blog, Apartment Therapy, and a few other blogs, Pinterest (I agree… I only use my own boards and pins now are from blogs)… I find inspiration from my mother's decor and my friends, colors in nature and museums, and still love love most my collection of decor books. Currently inspiring — anything Sibella Court (I am much more of a minimalist than her but I love her totally fearless style), Elements of Style, Decorate by Holly Decker, and Jonathan Adler's books (especially the one on color).

Ha! You are so not alone. I love a British mystery. Check out Miss Fisher's murder mysteries if you haven't – she's Australian instead of British, but faaabulous flapper style. I am also endlessly inspired by Hitchcock movies.

So funny that you would recently post about this! Sadly, the only time I head to Pinterest is when I'm working on a project or looking for a recipe. But I am on the hunt for a new kitchen faucet at the moment, and the first place I headed was your Pinterest boards! I was SUPER impressed and inspired. And I thoroughly appreciated the organization. So, thank you!

I love seeing what other people are inspired by. I can't believe i wasn't following you on Pinterest before this. I think Instagram is my biggest online inspiration and I have so many screenshots of IG posts that have inspired me.
