My name is Gwen, and I am The Makerista.  I reside in Missouri with my handy husband (who helps me make), Micah, my children: Xander and Milly, and our black lab, Jake.

From a young age I have always had a strong desire to create.  It began with making music at the age of three and evolved into a jewelry company in college, a stint in the New York fashion industry, a career planning parties and marketing products, all culminating with the opportunity to make a home for my family and capture the moments we make here.  As a jane of all trades, I enjoy making anything and everything.  Whether it be something for myself, my children or my home, I believe there is beauty and satisfaction in making it yourself.  I hope you will join me as I document what I believe I was made to do: make!

  1. I just found your site and love it! Congrats on the new blog! I have two little kids as well so the info about your babies' rooms and how you decorated is so helpful. I'm sure you have tons of ideas for what to post, but would you think about a tutorial for making your own pillowcases one time? I noticed you made a lot of yours and would love to try. Happy blogging!

    1. I'm glad I could be helpful, Michelle! I appreciate your feedback, and I have added that tutorial to my list of things to post about! Yes, I feel like I can save so much money, or at least buy better quality fabrics that way. Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

  3. Hi, nice to meet you, and hope I do not disturb you.
I'm a staff of TV program production company in Japan. My name is Zhao Man.
And we are making a new TV program called "Korezo!NIPPON Ryu!" about introducing funky&amazing things in Japan that foreigner people think this month(Augest).

This time the title is "Japanese home".
When we researched before making the program, the foreigners said that Japanese floor cushion is different from their countries.
So we want to introduce foreigner's family photo to make viewers know that, Japanese use cushion as a chair when they seat at floor, but on the other hand, in foreign countries, cushion is just to be used as ornament at sofa, chair, and so on.
Could we use your family photo at "Korezo!NIPPON Ryu!" program?
If we could use it, please connect me. My e-mail address is: zhao@dawn.jp
