Have you ever noticed that you typically only see spaces in magazines and on blogs during the day? As a blogger, I spend a lot of time and energy making sure the light is perfectly even in a shot: timing my shoots for the best sunlight, using white boards to bounce light, and editing in Photoshop. “Light and bright” is what’s in right now, and while there’s nothing wrong with that, my home has loads of moody color and the sun is only up for so long. The night brings such a different feeling to every space in our home, and the pretty lighting we’ve added gets a chance to truly shine after the sun goes down. The library isn’t complete yet, but it’s always been the most stunning in the evening, when the sconces and chandelier cast shadows on the books and the saturated colors get a chance to play their moodiest role.
I love it so much that I’ve started spending time in here. While not finished, there’s enough interest to call me to the space for some late night emailing and inspiration searching. Recently I pulled in one of the swivel chairs from the wood room, this side table in from poolside, and added a new beautiful lamp to give myself some task lighting while I wind down before bed.
I don’t do “girly” a lot, but I think the tone on tone of pinks with the chair and walls against the modern lamp and sculptural side table is really relaxing. I love a burl frame and this texture print by my friend, Laura, (enter code “makerista” at checkout for free shipping!) is just enough to add interest. I can never resist a pop of poppy that name is rather appropriate for that color, isn’t it? and Aldi roses for 3.99 aren’t easy to pass up.
The Cypress floor lamp from Rejuvenation is such a stunner and adds so much style and light to any little nook or corner. I’m sorry to report I have become my mother, I now need more light to see things well at night, and the ease of adjusting the beautiful arms checks off form and function.
It may not be permanent, but it’s pretty, and I love having a little space to myself at the end of the day. I just crossed over to the third trimester, and my energy is still feeling up, giving me more time to plan and less need for sleep. That 10pm bedtime had been killing my productivity!

Gwen!!! This is stunning. I didn’t know that the arms on the lamp adjusted–how cool! And I echo other commenters when I say, that sweet bump steals the show.

You’re sweet, thanks again for putting this together, it was so much fun!

I love how you have gone with deeper, moody colors in some key spaces, like the dining room and library. It’s giving me the courage to venture away from the light grey I have throughout my house (builder would only do one color, and in flat). Thanks for the inspiration!
P.S. You look fantastic! Adorable baby bump. ๐
themakerista@gmail.com says
I love hearing that, Kristen! It’s fun to experiment and live in different colors, isn’t it? Thank you. ๐
