SHIRT | PANTS | EARRINGS | SHOES
Like most projects, this refresh has taken longer than I had anticipated, but I’m happy to say that we’re calling it a wrap and loving our new sanctuary. We started out with too much blue and quickly white washed the space when we first moved in.
Since then we’ve been living with Micah’s bachelor furniture and a few mismatched pieces and accessories. But it was time to really bring some calming, personal style to the space.
You can read about the addition of the furnishings here and the lighting here. I still can’t believe it took us eight years to get a king size bed. I mean, how do you go back from the glorious sleeping space? You don’t.
COMFORTER | DUVET | SHEETS | EUROS | EURO SHAMS |PILLOWS
I wanted to keep the bedding simple, but great quality. We’re grown ups, and grown up bedding we shall have. No man loves a million pillows on the bed. I don’t love throwing them on the ground at night or having to arrange them every morning. We pretty much pull out our night pillows each evening and just tuck them back behind the euros with a bit of fluffing in the morning.
Micah has bad allergies. A few years ago I switched all of our bedding from down to down alternative and it’s helped a lot. I love that there are no feathers flying, and the king size pillows are so comfortable – you’d never guess they were an alternative. I’ve heard great things about Crane & Canopy for several years now. They have beautiful sheets and pretty duvets, but again, I was just wanting simple and fresh. The Peninsula collection is just that.
Because I was going all white, I wanted to bring in some texture. Linen is a nice, casual addition against the crisp duvet and shams. These Cultiver sheets are really breathable and get softer with each wash. Yes, they’re “wrinkled,” but linen is, and I like that it feels more intentional and less like I need to iron my sheets.
CHESTS | LAMPS | CONCRETE PLANTER | GARDEN STOOL (SIMILAR)
For the window treatments I wanted to bring in texture and a bit of pattern. The Shade Store was so great to work with for our sunroom, so I turned to them again for curtains in here. One of my favorite things about working with them is the fact that they offer free measuring, so you know your custom treatments are always going to turn out just right. I sampled many fabrics, and while I was really loving several neutral stripes, the stripes in the adjoining sunroom pushed me to the plaid. Manor in Buff is the most subtle, beautiful touch. The pinch pleat is a classic, and I love the substantialness the black rods and rings bring. The shades are my favorite budget-friendly option from Lowe’s.
ARTWORK | DOOR CURTAINS | CHAIR
Finally, the doors to my closet had some rather tired curtains. Micah moved the rods to the other side so we could see the pretty glass from our room, and I made some new panels in the most lovely blush linen from Tonic Living. It’s a subtle hint to what lies behind the door and a nod to the pinks that play so nicely in the sunroom. We also switched out the hardware to the Emtek Merrimack we’re slowly incorporating throughout the house. It’s amazing how new hardware can update any door.
Someday we’ll tackle the adjoining master bath. At that time we’ll scrape ceilings and upgrade the mouldings in here, but dust and debris with a newborn just didn’t sound ideal. I’d say we’ve achieved a much more grown up retreat with furnishings and accessories though, wouldn’t you?

Hi Gwen, beautiful space! The bamboo shades are exactly what I am looking for with a little hint of black, It doesn’t seem to be that the link you provided for Lowes is that same style. Do you know if they are still available?

Hi Nikki! Those are the same! They only sell two colors in store and these are the darker ones. Good luck, they’re a great look for the price!
