I’m still chugging along on our master bedroom refresh. I kind of talked here about the furniture in the space and how heavy it all feels. This week I was able to remove the nightstands and found a new mirror for over the dresser.
With the old paint and mirror…
It’s a really nice mirror: a great size and solid. If anyone local is interested in it, let me know. I’ll be putting it on Craigslist shortly! But it was just too much with the dresser.
Hopefully we’ll get the trim finished up in the next few weeks. I won’t even tell you how long it’s been missing. And there is a peek at our next project, the master bathroom.
I got this art deco mirror from an older couple off of Craigslist. I tried talking them down from their asking price, but man, were they sticklers. $50 and not a penny less. I think it was worth it. It has a few chips at the bottom, but is in otherwise amazing shape and was exactly what I was looking for. It’s clean lines work well with the dresser and the lack of frame keeps it feeling light and fresh.
I’m still trying to figure out accessories for the space. I’m usually a “more is more” kinda gal, but there is something to be said about keeping the place you sleep clutter free.
Plus, with furniture this dark you are stuck dusting far too often. The less there is to move around, the better.
I can’t get enough of this pink Bromeliad: from the colors of the flower to the pattern on the leaves. It was $15 from Walmart, which is usually more than I spend on any plant, but totally worth it for that kind of beautiful impact.
See that art peeking out from behind my couch? I scored that this week, too. Some of you are thinking scored??? Well, I’m hoping with a glass of wine and a paintbrush, this weekend I can turn that thing into something great. And I’m hoping to share it with you (success or failure) the beginning of next week.
Any great tips from my painter friends out there? Especially for a Type A like myself?

Amazing what a difference a new mirror makes! My bedroom furniture is dark, dark, and dark and I hear you on the dusting. Ugh. I really don't enjoy housecleaning… I just want someone else to clean it all so I can focus on making and decorating 🙂

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

My art teacher in high school told me once you have to make a mess to make a masterpiece. I love that canvas, it looks like it already has texture, which is a plus and will give it depth! I would use wall paint to cover the whole thing if your wanting a clean slate. It can be a big money saver instead of using those little acrylic paints. Be open to markers, chalk, oil chalk and crayons too. It's fun to experiment with other mediums, don't be afraid to make a mistake Makerista you can always paint over it!!:)

My bedroom is disgusting and far from sexy. There is ALWAYS something more important to work on around here…. I do have a bust though. Wait, I actually have two in my bedroom….there are somethings I never tire of…..concrete strangers.

I feel strangely drawn to them too!

I love that mirror! Lesser price would've been nice but still worth it for what you paid. Huge difference in making the space light and airy. Might have to go that route as I have the same dilemma. Thanks for the inspiration! Now to convince the husband…

Thanks so much, Kara! Best of luck, yes that convincing part is sometimes the hardest part. 🙂
