While the dining room is looking better and better, other areas of the house are leaving a bit to be desired. The kids rooms are just kind of “as is” at this point: original bones and paint with their furniture and toys moved in, but no thought put into anything. Milly doesn’t spend a second in her room other than sleeping stage 5 clinger but Xander really enjoys alone time, reading and playing for hours in his own space.
With nothing on the walls and clutter on his dresser, I wanted to take a little time while he was at school to give him an area I know he’d love. I had yet to put anything up on the walls in this house, and wasn’t ready to commit to a hammer and nails, but I received these frameless mats in the mail a few weeks ago and thought this was the perfect opportunity to give them a try.
Indie Mats was founded by a fellow Missouri girl, Emma, and I was really impressed by the simple yet genius idea. The mats ARE the frames. They are extra thick and sturdy, and the kits come with everything you need to hang – all you need is a picture and some tape to attach it to the mat. I know there are some wonderful sites that print your instagram pictures for you, but in a pinch, I just printed these on our home printer. And to mix it up a bit (this is a kid’s room after all) a simple google search found me a few things Xander loves: Garfield and Legos.
I chose these simple mats because I wasn’t sure where I’d be putting them, but there is an incredible array of colors and patterns available. Be sure to check out Elizabeth’s mats and I look forward to Emily sharing how she uses hers next Friday. In the meantime Indie Mats is offering Makerista readers a discount when you use the code “themakerista18” at checkout.
