Every year it was the same. “Mom, what can we get you for Mother’s Day?” “Oh, I don’t know, I could use some new measuring cups.” “Let’s just go out to eat, being with you all is gift enough.” “I would like a new hairbrush…”
I always thought these responses were rather underwhelming growing up. I mean, I could name a million things I’d like for any holiday. But now I’m a mom, and like almost every woman in the history of motherhood I’ve become my mother. It’s not that I don’t like things, I just don’t need any more “stuff.” Life with little kids is full enough, and as my mom always says, the more you have the more you have to maintain.
I’ve found its not just my mom, it’s most moms I know. We all want to live more simply, but that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate some beauty infused within our day to day. I used to think flowers were kind of a waste of money. Pretty blooms aren’t cheap, and they only last a few weeks at most – why spend on something fleeting? But with age and hopefully some wisdom that’s changed. I now appreciate beauty that comes for a moment and then leaves with fond memories and a clean slate. Decor must be dusted, plants must be watered, but flowers give so much enjoyment with virtually no maintenance.
So this year I decided to give the moms in my life flowers. Flowers on Mother’s Day? That sounds kind of generic, but I’m here to prove that it can be completely personal and wonderfully decedent something all woman love but many are afraid to admit to. Not only are flowers a lovely Mother’s Day gift to get, they’re an easy one to give with Teleflora. Simply go to their website, pick the beautiful bouquet that best suites your mom I loved using the color feature so I could select their favorite color and narrow things down that way and with a few clicks you can send something really thoughtful. While you have the ease of ordering online, the flowers come in a very personal manor because every bouquet is professionally-arranged by the best local florists and hand-delivered to your mom’s door. Now is not the time to buy those grocery store flowers, trust me, your mother is worth this.
My mom is a traditionalist who loves blue. This blue and white bouquet looks stunning on her piano.
Our Grannie looks devine in lavender. This purple bouquet just sings against the blues in her sunroom.
My mother-in-law loves all things pink and anything punchy…and lots of mercury glass. The colors really pop in her rustic home and bring out the pink in her antique dishes. We might not have the same style, but this woman taught me a lot about styling…look at that buffet!
And for those mom’s far away, you can rest assured that the flowers will be just as lovely as what you see on the computer screen. We sent our Grandma in Ohio this colorful arrangement, and she still hasn’t stopped raving about how pretty it was or how long it lasted.
As moms we often feel guilty about treating ourselves. Why is that? We know how hard this thing can be, so why not give ourselves some love once in a while and feel good about doing so? I ordered myself this gorgeous, neutral centerpiece, and while I’ll feel a bit sad when it’s sung it’s swan song, I’ll savor it’s beauty all the more now.
What are your favorite flowers to give and get?

Those mercury glass urns look gorgeous with the flowers! I think that simple white one might be my favorite, though I do love the one for your mother-in-law too. So pretty. I haven come to appreciate flowers more as I’ve gotten older too 🙂

I choose a gorgeous arrangement for my daughter. She was sad and I wanted something beautiful. Worst experience ever. The florist is in Fl so I had to talk to them on the phone. A lot. After too many phone calls they finally sent something that was close to the picture, but not close enough. I’ll never order flowers from Teleflora or any online florist. It wa so disappointing. I wanted her to come home to these gorgeous flowers and they were AWFUL. Never again.

Sorry to hear that Dahlene. I know I’ve heard of some bad experiences with other floral delivery services, but I’ve had only amazing experiences with Telefora. I’ve probably ordered about 10 times with different locations and never had a bad arrangement!

So pretty, Gwen! I am totally with you…I always draw a blank when asked directly what I want for special holidays. And there is never a bad time to receive flowers, in my opinion. They just have a way of making an ordinary day feel anything but…love seeing them on the counter for the days and sometimes week(s) after getting them! The white one with the mercury glass vase immediately caught my eye.

You’re right, there is never a bad time to get them. 🙂
