And I’m not sure who was the biggest loser, me or our beautiful willow tree. It was a sad weekend at Casa de la Makerista…
My husband, father-in-law and brother spent two of the hottest summer days taking it down. It was the most beautiful tree, but it was a total mess. They say trees aren’t good around pools and this was definitely the worst offender. Our filter was always clogged and we had to skim the pool several times a day between the leaves and the wispy branches.
It’s definitely a different space without it and motivating me even more to figure out something with the fence. Ultimately we want to replace it, but there are a lot of things I’d rather put our money into at this point. My backyard goal for the summer was to add green in front of it, and that didn’t really happen. I had hoped to plant arborvitae down it, but there are only a few inches of soil before you hit gravel. I planted ivy at the beginning of the summer that has been doing pretty well just not growing fast enough for my liking, but with the shade of the willow gone, I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time before it’s all fried up.
We may have lost a tree, but we definitely gained a cleaner pool that will be more enjoyable to spend time in. So I’m trying to focus on that. Please tell me I’m not alone in not meeting my summer to-do list.

Oh I am sorry about the tree, but I do love a fabulous clean pool.

Uh, yeahhhh…I feel like I accomplished basically nothing this summer! And I am feeling a little frazzled now with my massively huge fall to-do list. Deep breaths…
I am sad for your willow tree – they're my favorite, so graceful – but a clean pool and lower maintenance basically forever were probably worth it 🙂

Sorry the tree had to go, it was beautiful. Too bad you couldn't just move it! On a different note, how did you hang that bat in your son's room? And is it a full size bat or one of those souvenir bats? Very cute!

Its the souvenir size. I just held it straight and my husband put two brass screws underneath it. I'm sure when Xander gets older (and crazier) this might not work, but it does for now!

Darn, I had one part of the winning combination… I'll work on the second part:)
I know, logically, that you had really good reasons to take down that willow…. but my heart is so sad! I didn't even know about it until right this second and I'm very sad for you. haha. Willows are so gorgeous. My tree hugging self is whimpering.

Oh no. The tree was beautiful. Too bad it was already down. Maybe the pool could've gone? Jk, jk.
