In my book, a room is never really complete without art. You can have loads of color in a space, but without art it can still fall flat. Art is personality and life. I think art can be overwhelming for some people, but it doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult.
This pair of ink blots that I created for the bathroom I made over with Lowe’s is just that: simple to create and inexpensive. For the art itself, I used this tutorial I did a while back, but repeated the process with several colors to get a layered look. Just make sure to let it dry in between each blot and use varying sizes and patterns for each color to create contrast.
The frames are acrylic sheets from Lowes. They come in precut sizes or you can cut a bigger sheet in-store for a custom size. I purchased the standoffs online, and my friend Kristin has a wonderful tutorial on the process of assembling it all here.

Hi,
The link to purchase the standoffs isn't there. Could you please provide the source? Thank you!
Sincerely,

How did you attach the frames to the wall? Fabulous job!!!

Hey Sydney, depending upon the standoffs you purchase, they could be a bit different. They should come with instructions. These had a screw you put in the wall and the standoffs attached to that. Good luck!

Gwen, I have always loved your work but I gotta say you are really killing it even more lately! This bathroom is gorgeous and the perfect example of it doesn't have to cost a million dollars and you don't have to rip things out!

Gwen – I love the art you made for the bathroom! Did you transfer the first color to the paper, let it dry, add a second color to the wax paper, transfer that to the paper, etc…?
Thanks!
Janet

I did let it dry in between each time, but used a different sheet of waxed paper for each color. I think you can play around a bit though. The paint wasn't always completely dry when I was experimenting with it and some of those came out really cool too. Thanks for reading, Janet!
