While the plan is to take one room at a time in our new home, there was one space that we just couldn’t wait on that long.
This blue had to go, like yesterday. It’s not that I don’t like the color (there really isn’t a color I don’t like) but there was just way too much of it. I wanted the space to feel light and fresh, and without a specific color in mind I chose to do a shade of white for now.
I went with Benjamin Moore’s Simply White because it’s clean but has a little bit of warmth to it.
This room isn’t even on the list of “to tackle”s yet, but I don’t want to make the same mistake we did in our last house: putting off the master until the very end. So, other than painting the walls (the trim desperately needs it and the white walls make that even more apparent), I pulled some bedding out of boxes and added a few things to the mantle.
Micah has been asking when I was going to start hanging art around the house. This might not be the best answer, but I don’t really see the point in hanging much yet. For me, art usually feels like a finisher, and we’re not to that point in any space yet. And I’m ok with that, but I don’t think he is. So I put up this beautiful abstract. It’s a little small for the mantle, but luckily I can simply send it back and trade it for something different.
Have you heard of Easely? It’s kind of like Netflix for art. You basically rent art by the month and you can swap it out at any time – they pay the shipping both ways. The first 6 months of rental goes as credit towards purchase, so if you love a piece you can keep it forever and not have to pay for it all upfront. Every limited edition canvas comes with a hammer and nail inside the box – it really couldn’t be easier.

Well if there ever was an argument for the power of paint, this is it! What a difference! And I love that little art piece – what a great idea that is to be able to rent and apply toward a purchase.

Seems like a different room, almost! I have a couple cans of white paint waiting for me today, and seeing your photos are just the motivation I needed to get going! (I'm painting over yellow in our living room to freshen things up.) Thanks for sharing!

Best of luck! Yes, we all need a little motivation to take on a project like this, don't we? I'm sure it will turn out wonderful!

Isn't it great what a difference a paint job can make? It looks great and so bright and happy in the morning (something I need in my room too). And thanks for the art intro, what a great idea.

It's amazing how much better the room looks painted white. That blue was way too strong of a color to have in such a large dose. I agree with you on art – I really don't like to hang it up until a room is set up the way I want it, at least for the time being.

Love the white and renting art like that is such a great idea

Ah, what a nice breath of fresh air! It looks so much better already. I'm sure it was a rough start to each day looking at the blinding blue walls when you woke up!

That's crazy! It looks twice as big now!

Wow! What a huge difference!

I love how paint can really transform a room! We are painting our entire house…ceilings and all! I have barely hung any art either as I want to add those things at the end! Love your master bedroom!

Love the fresh look. I did this to our guest bedroom when we moved to our house but wound up loving the clean look and keeping it. Any tips for picking the right white for a space? We're finishing our basement and will be moving the guest bedroom down there. I'm thinking of keeping the all white look. The rest of the decor is black and white with pops of rose red.

I think the best thing to do is to try some samples on the wall. Most white paints skew a certain color, so if you want a clean, cool feeling go for something that skews blue or grey, if you want a warm feeling, something that skews yellow, cream. Hope that helps some!

so glad you tackled your master! It looks amazing already! and your mantle styling is perfection. And thanks for the intro to this art website….so interesting. WIll have to check it out. I also think art is the absolutely last thing you hang. When we moved I just leaned it all around the house near where I was considering hanging it, this way I could be really sure. I ended up moving furniture and other things around and the paintings along with it. I think you are right not hanging anything yet.

I have never heard of Easley but I love the idea!

So fresh and bright! I had to start over with some creamy white paint in my foyer last year. LOVE the abstract – neat idea for a company.

Simply White is one of my absolute fav whites. Its my go to for kitchen cabs. Both of our kitchen cabs went this color. Love it and I loove it in your space Gwen. Definitely so light and bright. I also love this "netflix" art idea. So smart.
